Amelia Island

Anyone ever been to Amelia Island in NE Florida near Jacksonville? I am looking at somewhere new to go on vacation and it looks like an interesting beach locale.

I've never been, but I have been told that the Ritz Carlton there is very nice.

Yeah it better be with the price tag I saw for it lol. There are a lot of resorts and stuff down there as well as beach houses and condos. It looks like a good mixture of HHI and Beaufort which I like. It is also where this season of Big Break was filmed.

Neat place. Fernandina Beach has a great little community. The Shrimp Festival is a lot of fun, great atmosphere and live music.

I live and work on Amelia Island. It is a great place. We have two five star Resorts, the Ritz-Carlton, and the Omni Amelia Island Plantation. If you are looking to rent a cottage or condo, I suggest that you contact either Summer Beach, or ERA.

When are you coming?

The Shrimp Festival is the first weekend in May.

Dinning:
David's Grill is a great fine dining restaurant as is Brett's at the Marina.
Lucille's is a more casual place with Great Food.
The Salty Pelican is a great place to have drinks, bar food, and watch the sunset over the Marina.

The Surf and Sliders are good Beach Restaurants. Sliders usually offers live music in the evenings.

Then you must have your Family Portraits taken by Vacation Portraits ( by the way I must disclose that it is my company) LOL.

Hope all this info helped. If you need more info, please just ask.

Stayed there a week a few years back at the westin for the mechanical contractors associations convention. Loved it there. Quiet but still a lot to do out there. I definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the information. It sounds like a good place. We are planning for either the last week in June or the first week in July. The wife and I are looking to get away for some alone time this summer and also scout somewhere to take the whole family next summer. What do you think about the Omni? I was thinking either there or a condo for our first trip.

I recommend visiting Cumberland Island during your visit also. I believe there is a boat shuttle from Amelia Island. Wonderful place to spend a day, definitely worth seeing.

They just remodeled the Hotel at the Omni. It is beautiful. There pool and Pool bar area is better than that at the Ritz

I lived in jax for a few years. My favorite place to go was huguenot park/beach just south of there. That whole area is very nice. IDK if you're into golf or not but next month is TPC at Sawgrass. I always wanted to go just to see the famous island hole but I could never get off. There's some nice places to eat at jax beach and at the landing downtown.

Yogi,
Visited there with wife for an anasthesia conference and had a great time. While lodging was expensive, we save cash by renting a place through VRBO site and stayed in a great cottage relatively inexpensive when compared to hotel fees. VRBO works well for our traveling needs and you meet some great people who happily rent their places, plan and cook your chosen meals and spend $ on other things. You might want to check this site and view alternative lodging arrangements to suit your needs. VRBO.com .......Amelia island Fla.

Thanks. I have already been checking out VRBO.com for condos and they are a good bit cheaper on all the fees then a lot of other places. I found a 2 br I like but my wife is not sure if we need all that space just for the two of us and I found a couple of decent hotels that are offering a stay 3 night get the 4th night free deals that would save us a few hundred dollars.

My wife convinced me to save money on lodging so I ended booking Amelia Hotel at the Beach on Orbitz for under $500 for four nights. I know it is an older hotel but hopefully it isn't too bad. Now she can go to the spa and I can play golf and we can do other things.

Anyone have other restaurant recommendations and the types of food they serve?

We are headed to Amelia Island on Monday. Hopefully the tropical mess that is brewing in the ocean doesn't bring too much rain. I am hoping to get a day of golf in somewhere at a decent price. My wife still wants a spa trip, so we got to find a decent affordable one as well. Any other restaurant recommendations?
