SBNation Article: Meet the Bag Man

"How to buy college football players, in the words of a man who delivers the money."

Really interesting interview with a bag man from an SEC team. I guess we know where all of those "insider sources" come from.

And ya'll read this part, right??

Quote:

"One time grandpa needed his tractor fixed. He and grandma were the primary care-givers of this kid out in a rural area. Well, they aren't going to turn down the money, and they didn't, but what they needed was a tractor to get fixed. "
That's GOT to be a tater, Right???

Read this earlier, and it's a great article. Sounds like an Auburn guy based on the clues. Small southern town, new coach, last coach was a yankee who boosters didn't particularly like. Could be wrong, of course, but seemed to be the best inference from the few specifics mentioned.

Pretty sure that tractor part was from the movie Blue Chips.

Little skeptical. How does a writer even find out who the bagman is? What does a bagman have to gain from this.

SBNation is like Bleacher Reports, anyone can write anything.

Chizik isn't a Yankee.

I Like How The Author Capitolized Each Word In The Title but lost interest in doing so as he progressed.

My guess would be Florida, then? Meyer was from Ohio. Possibly Arkansas, since their "interim" coach was from Michigan... I think.

Re: SBNation Article: Meet the Bag Man

I'm guessing Arky, they hated the interim coach.

Really good read. I have no doubt this happens at most, if not all, big time programs (ours included). Just some schools do it on a larger scale. With the stakes so high and so much money involved in college football it's silly to think this doen't go on.

Nardier, why do you care so much?

Boosters pay your players.

They pay our players.

They pay all big programs players.

There is a difference though from boosters giving out cash, and coaches knowing though.

This though, I don't think Spurrier is in favor of unfair advantages, so doesn't have interest in outbidding anyone, but if it happens he knows. He probably fights it, but he would know when someone gets cash. No way he gets involved though. That being said, idk who would be paid at our school. We never get our first choice, Clowney bummed rides and didn't have a car until like halfway through his junior season, close enough to a payday that it's unfair to assume his mom wasn't involved in that used car knowing she won't have to make too many payments. Mike Davis was accused of taking money by some taters, but the only person who gives him money that his mom isn't giving him is coming from James Davis. It's not like there isn't money in that family.

An unfair advantage would be not having a bag man. It's status quo.
