40 Ways You Know You're From South Carolina

40 Ways You Know You're From South Carolina

Quote:

3. There is nothing like the taste of a homegrown tomato atop a bed of Duke’s Mayo and a dash of salt and pepper.

4. Peach season is as important as football. You have bought them from the same man, at the same gas station, for 20 years. God bless him. (P.S. Georgia, we have more than you).

5. Barbecue is mustard-based. The end.

6. Thanksgiving dressing is cornbread-based. The end.

7. Crabbing is a sport. Deviled crabs are a delicacy.

8. Oyster roasts are the obvious way to celebrate.

Lived here my whole life. A lot of those are more ways you know you're from Charleston or Columbia.

I detest these lists and their reinforcement of stereotypes.

Yeah... I've lived here my entire life and probably only related to a quarter of them. They also seem to be written from a Charleston female perspective.

I was born and raised in SC. However only a quarter or so apply to me. A few of.these I have no idea what they are talking about. Granted I've lived in California for 13 years now but grew up and lived in SC for over 25 years.

It's true- we do produce more peaches than the former debtor's colony.

And you're right- our taste better.

They left off between two pieces of bread...classic tomato sandwich. And it should say a Johns Island tomato.

This is the most accurate part of the whole list:

17. There are four seasons: winter, spring, summer and college football.
18. You are either Tiger or Gamecock and fence riding will not be tolerated.
19. When hung-over, your first words are: “Yes, I’ll have a Cajun filet chicken biscuit and a large sweet tea, please”.

I can agree with #40. I would like to retire somewhere in costal SC. My wife has an eye towards retirement in the NC mountains. Good news is that we've got another 30 years to figure it out.

The stereotypes did run deep.

Ha! I never have either but it doesn't sound like a bad idea. That 45 sauce is some good stuff!

46. You know you're from SC when you think Groucho's is good food.

Didn't even finish it - the coastal bias ran pretty deep. Growing up in the rural piedmont there was a lot I would change for sure.

Them some good eatens. I jazzed my tomato sandwich up some, Add lettuce, and a slice of cheese with the mayo it's the bomb. Also surprised to not see vinegar and cucumbers, Pepsi Peanuts, and my all time favorite Vienna sausage and saltine crackers with Mustard.
