Tennessee hires Donnie Tyndall

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-...043852050.html
Beat Louisville at Morehead St in the NCAA tourney.

HEAD COACHING RECORD

2013-14 So. Miss 29-7 13-3 (1st)
2012-13 So. Miss 27-10 12-4 (2nd)
2011-12 Morehead St 18-14 10-6 (3rd)
2010-11 Morehead St 25-10 13-5 (2nd)
2009-10 Morehead St 24-11 15-3 (2nd)
2008-09 Morehead St 20-16 12-6 (4th)
2007-08 Morehead St 15-15 12-8 (3rd)
2006-07 Morehead St 12-18 8-12 (7th)
1996-97 St. Catharine Coll. 30-5 -
Totals 200-106 95-47

Great deal for Vols, get a better coach (IMO) with a better personality, and profit 800K in the deal. Also get to pay this better coach 200K less a year than we would have Cuonzo if he accepted his extension. Also strutcured a contract that protects the University if he wants to leave or if he fails and we have to let him go.

Dave Hart may get turned down a lot in coaching searches but he always seems to luck into a great coach!:happycoc:

And that is why they are in this mess to be turned down by La Tech's coach only to be super excited about Southern Miss. I hope he works out...

I wonder how many people turned down UT? I wonder if Gruden turned them down too..

One that has a long consistent record of winning.

Frank Martin would be a great coach, he is just at a worse program so it is taking him longer to win.

He will soon though!

typical utjr, not hire the guy you really want, White, and hire a guy who knows how to recruit, well atleast the utjr way.

La Tech guy wanted a low buyout so he could leave for Ole Miss if AK ever gets fired since he is a alum and coached there a long time.

He also wanted a big buyout if he failed. I am glad our AD is smart enough to see through that BS.

We gave Tyndall 6 years. So I doubt it was that.

Well the article I read said that is where it broke down between White and utjr. They were set a $2M per year but not the years.

The article you read was very inaccurate I guess.

We only offered White 1.3M/6 years.

Tyndall got 1.6M/6 years.

His buyout is 3M the first 3 years then drops to 1.5 M

White didn't want the buyout that high in the first 3 years and didn't want it to drop after the 3rd year.

Fact of the matter is he wants the Ole Miss job, so I am glad he stayed, I want someone who wants to be here like Butch Jones.

Whatever spin makes utjr fans feel better.

"UT athletic director Dave Hart targeted White. But the 37-year-old reportedly pulled out of conversations with Hart on Monday afternoon due to concerns about the long-term security."

But back to my original point, typical utjr hire "Tennessee took a swing at a handful of A-list candidates, all of whom declined", missing on the ones they really want, and hiring a guy who can recruit the utjr way, NCAA loves you guys!

I agree we whiffed on the A listers again, just like in football.

But when you aren't offering A list money you aren't going to get those guys. Our new AD has turned a 200M deficit into a 2M profit in two years, he's trying to right a MASSIVE amount of wrongs that were done 2003-2011.

Completely "off thread" but I'll post anyway: Let's see how Mizzou does in their "search & hire" efforts!
