Texans DON'T want first pick?

Per McClain, the Texans still want to swap first-round picks this year and add a 2015 pick in the top round to go with a 2014 second-round pick. In place of a third pick in the opening round, though, McClain says that the Texans are now looking for a 2014 third-rounder. There’s no word on how far down in the first round the Texans would be willing to drop in such a move.

Yea they want to trade out of the 1st pick. Everything you read sounds like their asking price is too high right now.

I really hope this isn't the case when they are on the clock tonight. I think Houston is the best situation for Clowney to land out of the other possible teams with a high draft pick.

Seems like this would be a classical move for the Redskins to come in and offer like the next 4 years of first and second round picks...smh

Houston would be stupid to take anyone other than Clowney at #1. They can get a pretty good QB in the second round and not have to pay him as much or play him as early; seems like a win-win to me.

You're right, plus a tag team of Clowney and JJ Watt will wreak havoc on Andrew Luck... I think signing Clowney would best set them up to win their division.

Actually if the QB is good, then taking a QB atthe bottom of the 1st would be better than taking one at the top of the 2nd. The $ is not that different and 1st rd picks have the 5th year team option, 2nd rounders do not. The 49ers definitely wish that they could have taken Kaepernick in the bottom of the 1st instead of the top of the 2nd.

Houston obviously has reservations about JD's ability to play OLB is a 3-4. If they could move down to the middle of the 1st and get a QB they like (Bortles) plus more picks, it would be ideal.

I like the idea of mid round team moving up to get JD and using him with his hand in the dirt.

Re: Texans DON'T want first pick?

Makes sense to me. I think playing the numbers game and getting as many players from the draft (especially in early rounds) is your best bet if you have the option.

For example, I think it is borderline insane to take a QB early in this draft when you could easily reap the same talent (either way, it's a gamble) by waiting later and grabbing McCarron, Murray, Mettenburger, or the others projected at 3-5 rounds.

Now...only difference in THIS year's draft is the person you are passing on is Jadeveon Clowney, a once in a generation player. Also a player than can make an impact immediately and isn't a huge gamble like position players at QB/RB/WR. Rarely anyone regrets grabbing a OL/DL early.

The Houston Texans will not make a deal for the #1 pick.
With the first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft the Houston Texans select Jadeveon Clowney from South Carolina.

LOL no it will not. It is Clowney. Besides, this has been a lock for how many years now? Tonight will finally shut up all the debate that has been going on for the last 2 1/2 years. (Thank God)

I figured that Houston was thinking about Khalil Mack and that they were thinking about trading a few picks down (possibly Atlanta) and still get Mack.

Guess it didn't work out.

Talks now that the Texans are going to get Ryan Mallet at QB. Clowney is going #1. I think the Texans have known this for a long time.

Re: Texans DON'T want first pick?

I think Mallet could actually do pretty well for himself. Just my two cents

It's been the worst kept secret that they want to trade down. The question is, are they able to get the value they desire out of the #1 pick? Nobody wants to pay their asking price of a RG3 type deal. We'll see if they lower the price come draft time.

It would be awesome to see Clowney and DJ on the same defense again
