Burpee World Record

Doubt this has been posted.

Guy I know from Ware Shoals is in the middle of attempting to break the world record for burpees. Record is 7,000+, he's going for 10,000 in 24 hours. Just crossed the 3,000 mark 4 hours in. Here's a live feed if you need something to do on a Friday night.

I think most people probably do, but I'm sure there are certain base requirements for what is considered a burpees and a push-up is probably just not on the list of the bare minimum requirements.

He's still going. See a banner that he already beat the record. Waiting to see what number he's at now. Everyone is celebrating

Pushups are optional.

There's another exercise that is similar I forgot the name of it, but it doesn't have the jump at the end.

Looked it up, it's the squat thrust.

Pretty impressive. He did at least 1/3 of them with a boner. Pretty decent eye-candy in the background at points so its valid.

Don't know why they ever named them "burpees". When I was growing up in football and sports and since the dawn of time...they are simply called "up/downs".

Seems that when CrossFit was invented and everyone who was neglecting exercising (before that point in their life) joined in on the fad, they had to create a new name for it.

Either way, pretty impressive from an endurance standpoint.

Did plenty of up/downs myself... They do look quite similar!:happycoc:

As long as we're on this tangent - the term burpee first started being used in the 30s. Calling it by the "original" name did come in vogue with CrossFits surge.

Yeah, did tons of up/downs at football practice and even more bends-n-thrusts at Parris Island (there's a diff, btw).
