Calirfornia Chrome May Not Run In the Belmont

Chrome wears nasal strips similar to what humans wear. He's been wearing them the last 6 races....he's won all of those races. NY may not let him run with them. There will be a national outcry if NY bars him from using the nasal strips.

"In 2012, I'll Have Another was the last horse to win the Derby and Preakness. He had worn nasal strips but his handlers were told he couldn't wear one in the Belmont. They were preparing to do so until I'll Have Another was scratched with a leg injury the day before the race."

I should maybe by stock in those Breath Right strips.

If NY says he can't have them, he shouldn't have them.

Well, that makes perfect sense.

Gives new meaning to "won by a nose"

If they're that big of an advantage I would suspect that they all would wear them.

Speaking of racehorses breathing......lower level trainers ($3-5 k claimers) used to stuff sponges up horses noses before a race preventing them from taking in a normal amount of air....therefore, since the horses couldn't breathe properly, they couldn't run very well. The trainers would get friends to bet on other horses in that race and enhance their chances of winning. They also did it after they claimed horses to make them run poorly...the next race the don't use the sponges, the hourse runs much better so the trainer sells the horse and makes money. Currently, vets are required to check every horse before every race to make sure the horse is fit to run.

Breathing strip approved. I never had a doubt. Triple Crown possibility is a huge moneymaker. They stood to lose casual fan without chrome being in the race.

I wonder how I'll Have Another feels about the decision.
