Clemson has actually produced quite a few MOH recipients. This really isn't a topic where a trivial interstate school rivalry should come into play.

SIAP: Gamecock to receive congressional medal of honor

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...7b9_story.html

Quote:

Carpenter’s case first received public attention just months after the explosion, when the legislature in his home state of South Carolina honored him in a March 2011 resolution for taking “the full blast from an enemy hand grenade to save a fellow Marine.” He appeared at a State House ceremony in his dress-blues uniform, still struggling with the wounds he had sustained. His face was pocked and tattooed with blue streaks, the result of the grenade explosion. Photographs taken that day went viral on patriotic blogs and in chain
e-mails.

The conversation was short but sweet, Carpenter said. The president told him that bestowing the Medal of Honor is one of his greatest pleasures as commander in chief and asked him what it was like being a University of South Carolina Gamecock.
I'm not sure if anyone had seen this already or if it had been posted. It's amazing what this guy went through and incredible that he survived his wounds. I was surprised to find out that this guy was a native of the state.

Please keep the focus on this guy too, not the president, I don't want it to get to be another post that degrades into PF fodder.

I was just reading about him earlier today. Hopefully we'll give him some sort of official recognition at some point during the season.

Great read. Any current CT'ers on campus be sure to shake that man's hand and thank him for his service. He is truly a hero
