Alshon will be pumping gas soon...

...into the car of his choice. The guy's contract is up in 2014 and he will be a free agent in 2015. The Bears have signed Marshall at 10 million a year and Alshon will get more. The Gamecocks are doing OK in the NFL...

So if Marshall is worth $10 million per year, what will Jeffery get? Hes eligible for a new contract after the 2014 regular season, and hell be a free agent after 2015. The Bears will need to pay Jeffery as much or more than Marshall, sooner rather than later.

I have this mental image of Alshon pulled up to a gas pump in a limo
that has the license plate ALJEFF 1 on it.... and Lane Kiffin in a Chauffeur's
uniform pumping the gas.

They'd be idiotic to retain Marshall but let Jeffery go. I'm not completely familiar with their cap situation, but I'm pretty sure most of their money is tied up to aging veterans that will have their contract expire soon, or will be terminated in order to lock up the younger talent like Jeffery. overthecap.com predicts their cap space at $36MM for next offseason

Jeffery has more upside, he is younger, and no off the field drama. If anything, they will release or trade Marshall before they would allow Alshon to leave.

I'd love to see a video of some huge hand inserting a gas nozzle into a car....winds up it's Alshon pumping gas into some regular car...and it's his mom's car with mom in the driver's seat....she rolls down the window and tells him his agent "just got him a new contract".....and "don't forget to clean the windows".

Gamecock nation would love it!

I don't think he will get more than Marshall.
And they probably won't trade him.

Huh?

How could one be traded after they become a free agent?

I don't think they will get rid of Marshall as long as Cutler is there. I still say they should have fired Cutler and kept Smith. We all knew Alshon had greatness in him the first time we saw him play in a game at the WB. Now the NFL knows it too.

The Bears just signed Marshall to a 3 year $30M extension through 2018. Marshall probably could have gotten more on the free market, but this move give them cap room to sign Alshon. I don't think they trade him as they know all they have to do is get better OL and run defense play and that team can really take off. I think Jeffery gets around the same deal as Marshall from the Bears.

Here is a list of highly ranked WR's (6.0 or better on Rivals) who chose to go to Southern Cal in the past 8 years and who are now pumping gas (or will be soon.)

Markeith Ambles (transferred to Houston, not even a starter, will work at Texaco)
Kyle Prater (transferred to Northwestern, had a total of 9 receptions last year.)
George Farmer (didn't even play last year.)
Ronald Johnson (signed with 49'ers but was cut, looking for a job.)
Patrick Turner (got on a couple teams Practice Squads, but hasn't done that since '12.)

IMO, the Bears would be better off with Alshon than Brandon Marshall. We all know what Jeffery is capable of. Marshall enters Free Agency next year. Alshon is probably looking at a second-tier WR contract (Calvin and Fitzgerald are the first tier at $16m/year.) Somewhere in the neighborhood of Dwayne Bowe's contract of 5 years $11.2 million a year. Here's a list of WR contracts:

Re: Alshon will be pumping gas soon...

When the Bears committed to keeping Jay Cutler, they committed to keeping Brandon Marshall. Marshall is Cutler's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option, other wide open receivers be damned.
