Riley Ferguson leaving Tennessee

 Jones per VQ.
Quote:

"Based on our recent conversations, I do not anticipate him (Ferguson) to be a member of our football family moving forward," Jones told VolQuest.com here at the Southeastern Conference's annual spring meetings.
A little background. Riley was 2nd/3rd on our depth chart coming out of the spring. He was widely regarded as the QB on our roster with the most "arm talent". He had a work ethic problem and was a Dooley recruit Butch inherited when he took over Dec 2012.

I was leading the Riley train in early March.

But after watchin Riley look lost as hell in the Spring Game and Worley look very efficient and Dobbs showing flashes of possibly developing into a really good QB, I was quickly changing my mind.

This is def not a good thing, though. It would have been great if Riley was on board with continuing to work and develop and possibly push Dobbs to be their best going into 2015. Instead he wanted the QB job handed to him and just staight up got outworked by Justin and Josh.

It is too bad, looks like he may be Tyler Bray Jr. and Butch doesn't want a guy like that leading his program if he won't put in the work.

He had some good offers.

I was listening to talk radio this morning here in East TN about this....it seems like Ferguson was not putting in the time necessary to excel. He did not rehab his injuries last year as well as he should have and this summer he elected to skip several things including a trip to California to work with that QB guru while Dobbs and Worley went out there. It sounds like the kid was who Jones thought would be starting this year by the end of the month of August but his lack of work ethic has left him looking elsewhere. IMO, it is not a huge loss for UT at this point unless they can not protect their QB and Worley and or Dobbs goes down.

On a side note, it sounds like Dobbs has done a good job of bulking up this off season and has put on some much needed weight to be able to be a full time starter in the SEC. IMO, this all will make Worley the starter against Utah St but I would not be surprised to see Dobbs get meaningful time in that game and or the Arkansas St game to solidify the starter heading into SEC action.

BTW for those who don't think this matters to USC fans, just remember UT beat us last year and we always struggle against them so instability and a short bench for UT at QB is pretty good for us...espeically when we play them in late October.

Riley will probably end up at ECU or something.

I'm hearing rumors he is coming home to UNC Charlotte. He would probably be the starter, and his brother is playing there also. And, his former teammate, Uriah Lemay, just tranfered there from UGA.

Yea I hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

The really scary thing is the thoughts of only having Dobbs and True Freshman in 2015...the year we are building towards being a legit team again. Putting a lot of eggs in Josh's basket.

Sorry for the worthless post to the rest of you, thought this was a pretty big development against a team yall play every year.

Worley should be fine this year, it's 2015 where you really hoped Ferguson could take control.

Our Oline is going to be a lot better than a line that doesn't return any starters. We've got a good mix of talent and developed backups ready for their first start.

Like he has always been and will always be. Forever.

I mean fine like he was against UGA and SC last year with 1/4 of the weapons to throw and hand off to that he will this year.

But you are right he's never going to be Peyton Manning or Drew Brees.

But he may be good enough to keep us competitive on offense this year.

What the heck happened to Tiny at the NFL draft? I didn't see that one coming after the game he played against Clowney (when Clowney's ankle was hurt). He did give up that big sack/fumble at the end, but otherwise, Tiny handled Clowney better than anyone.

Don't turn this into Tigernet. EricVol gave us some good info in the proper forum on one of our opponents. If you want to make fun of the Vols start a thread in Smack.

I don't know what to expect from Tenn. All I know is I saw a lot of lineman drafted in this years draft.

Ute will play us tough yet again as they have ever since the HBC came to town for any of us to be writing them off is completely absurd. They know our team and our tendancies (spurrier) very well. I still think we have a team that won't let us down finally this year but DO NOT ever sleep on Rocky Top remember what they were doing to us not that long ago they are still getting very talented players all the time.

He had some knee problem that he had surgery on in the post season before the combine ect. That looks like something that can be a reoccuring issue so it scared teams off.

He looks likely to make the Vikings roster though, but it unfortunatly cost him a lot of $$$.

We had to sneak up on you last yaer and caught you at the right time for us to play our best and you have a let down.

I don't expect that this year so I don't expect a W. I do think our team just matches up pretty well with yours and that we will keep it a close game. But being on the road in a game you all will be very fired up for makes it a 7pt loss or so, IMO.

He did not play well at all this year against clowney.

Remember that time you told me he'd be a higher pick than Lewan?
