Devonte Holloman May Get His Shot

Just heard on the Dallas Fox affiliate that with Sean Lee's season-ending injury, Devonte may be given consideration as the starter at middle linebacker for the Cowboys. He is apparently in the running for the job.

Right as I posted this thread, a commercial came on that was playing "2001" in the background, I kid you not.

I'll take that as a good omen for Devonte.

We all know that he can do the job.

I hope Devonte gets his shot. He was a hell of a player here. Picked off Tajh once or twice.

Devonte picked off Tahj Boyd twice and Kyle Parker once giving him 3 interceptions against Clemson in 4 games. I hope he does well with the Cowboys.

He got better every year he was in school, and it appears he has continued that trend. Dallas needs some big hitters and he certainly fits that bill.

Hope he gets his chance and stays healthy.

One of my favorite players to ever wear the garnet and black . Look at some of his highlights . Having him and swearinger was true blessing .

He made a great impression last year when he had his chances. 2 great INTS in the preseason. always around the ball. accounting for tackles. He'll make a good pro . He's already the exact same height and weight as Lance Briggs. He's well liked by teammates. Given the nick name "Hands Holloman". Smart, instinctive player.

Looks like a pro, acts like a pro, plays like a pro.

Forgot about him picking off Kyle Parker.

Filling Sean Lee's role is going to be asking a lot. This is a huge loss for Dallas. Lee was a leader on the team and greatly respected by other players on other teams. Lee was a great run stopping MLB. Holloman is not that type MLB. Dallas doesn't have a MLB anymore.
These OTAs are nothing but injury causers. Go ahead and practice 12 mos a year but come game time you won't win if all your players were busted up in OTAs. Why was Sean Lee even out there if he was coming off a serious injury?
Same with SF and Lattimore. Why is a recouping Latti involved in OTAs now? You can't make a team during OTAs but you can end your career in OTAs.

I guess the point is that they don't want players coming in out of shape. however, as you wrote, the tradeoff is another time where injuries can occur.

Right now Dallas is trying to get Romo out there in OTAs. He is not 100% yet.
Let the healthy guys use the OTAs to gain football shape to a partial degree but peaking in June won't help a football team in September.
Dallas is now on their way to missing the playoffs 4 yrs in a row because of OTA workouts. I wonder if Jason Garret learned anything? Nah-h-h

BTW I remember the first week Clowney showed up at USC for practice. Coaches got on him about going 100% in practice. They taught him to slow down a step or two.

I guess that means Devonte had 3 interceptions against NFL QB's before he ever made it into the NFL.

Re: Devonte Holloman May Get His Shot

He started some games last year. Lee missed 5 games last and Holloman started some of those. He played a lot as a backup as well. He did not look good until the Redskins game, but that's to be expected for a rookie. Cowboys defense was one of the worst in the history the league last year, so I don't think you can put much of that on Holloman, but it does not look that good for them. They did pick a former Silver Bluff HS player in DeMarcus Lawrence in the draft. He's from Aiken, SC. He played for Boise St.

Re: Devonte Holloman May Get His Shot

i'm pretty sure Holloman caught more balls from Clemson QBs than Watkins and Hopkins did.

Yea this injury sucks! Cowboys are going to sign atleast 1 player. Possible Urlacher and/or Vilma.
