Kane Whitehurst's role in 2014

Interested in hearing educated projections about what Whitehurst's role will be in 2014. I haven't heard much about him this offseason and his skill set intrigues me.

Well, simply basing my opinion on what he did last year and the personnel we have returning, I don't see him contributing a lot. He might get on the field more, but I'm not sure how much of a threat he will be to other teams, even as a decoy. He caught a total of four passes last year, so that's why I'm not sure he'll be used in crucial situations unless there is a real need to get extra speed on the field.

Then again, two of his four catches were for TDs, and both came while Thompson was the QB, so maybe those two have a little better connection since they were both back-up players.

Yeah, I don't see a huge role for him. I can see 12 catches for 145 yards for the season. I think Roland will have the most catches with around 50. Hopefully, our tight ends will have a bunch.

Whitehurst needs to improve on his pass catching skills. There is no doubt that he has the speed but he dropped some balls last year. Who knows what practice will bring.

Prob won't see much time as we have better athletes replacing him.. Pharoh Cooper and Samuel are similar to him and can probably do more than Kane. This is pure speculation though, but my reasonable thought.

Kane is my sleeper pick. This kid is one of the best receivers we have. He is second to Byrd as the fastest on the team. Last year he learned the playbook. He is one of Dillions favorites. At 6' 195 is great target for Dillion. By the 3rd game he will be on the first team. He played a lot more than the 4 touchdowns would reflect. This kid is as good as Shaq Roland.

Dillion will throw to Cane more than Connar did.

We return a lot of talent at WR, but he could be a guy who can snag a few catches this year, though I don't see him lighting up a stat sheet.

I think he will contribute quite a bit. Dylan seems to spread the ball around a little more than Connor. He may not be leading receiver but i think his name will be known.

Did Dylan throw a text to Whitehurst in the first game last year?

Not sure what you mean. Did Dylan play in the UNC game?

When I wrote that, I wrote it on my smartphone while taking a dump. I did not want to open a second page to google the information but the post about Dylan to Whitehurst made me recall someone toss a td pass to Whitehurst, who caught it on his shoulder about 3 feet into the endzone. I remembered it as being the second td pass of the eyar for the Gamecocks but I could not confirm it.

Pretty sure Dylan actually threw two TD's to Whitehurst last year. UNC and Arkansas.

"Mr Instant Offense" completes pass to "The Smartest Whitehurst You Will Ever Know"

Dylan Thompson threw 4 TDs in 2013 and two of them were to Kane Whitehurst.

Kane Whitehurst caught 4 passes last year with 2tds ....3 passes from Dylan Thompson and 1 from Perry Orth

Perry Orth threw one pass last year.

All he does is catch touchdowns.

Could fill Bruce's role if he can run the routes and make big catches, he has the speed and shiftiness.

I was thinking he may see some action in 4 WR sets.
