2015-16 Adding Two New Permanent Rivals

Quote:

The SEC decided last week in Destin, Florida to change its approach. Instead of one permanent rival, each team will now play three home-and-homes a year against the same three schools, for 6 games.
So, we will keep Georgia, but add two new permanent rivals for the foreseeable future.

Who would you like to see us add as the new permanent SEC rivals?

My first thought was Auburn and Tennessee.

Auburn, because of Bruce Pearl. Good for ticket sales and for TV.

Tennessee for the same reasons and I don't see them dropping out of the top 25 anytime soon.

• The SEC Athletics Directors have decided to remain with 18-game conference schedule format for the sport of men’s basketball. A revision to the format will now include three permanent opponents. The previous format included just one permanent opponent among the 18. That permanent opponent from the previous format will be included as one of the three permanent opponents in the new format.

Interesting...
I think this is a good idea.
Rivalries put butts in seats and give a good measuring stick of improvement.

I think having opponents we play annually in football is important. So, I think Texas A&M would be good to help build that rivalry and Tennessee since they are perennially a strong program, and there is a potentially great rivalry there.

I'm kind of neutral on this idea. The only team I think we need to play twice every year is Georgia. After that, don't really care. Tried to look up our overall record against the other SEC schools to see if there's a team we're close to equal with, but either the media guide didn't have it or I overlooked it. I would hope we get one team from the east and one from the west. As for who would be best to develop a rivalry, I would say Tennessee or Vanderbilt from the east and Ole Miss or Auburn from the west. As I think about it though, all of the pairings with the west teams feel like forced rivalry, much like we've experienced with Arkansas in football.

I do like the thought of having the same rivalry games as football. Georgia, A&M and Tenn would be a great trio to play home and home each year.
