Calvin and Hobbes was possibly the wittiest, most creative and imaginative comic strip ever... My all time favorite, hands down!

You are correct, loved Calvin and Hobbes. But my all time favorite was the Far Side with Gary Larson.

Pretty cool, but I wouldn't consider C&H the epitome of drawing skillz on display; the humor was and is great but to me "Lib"'s artwork wasn't that much of an upgrade

I agree. Calvin is good but Far Side is my favorite. ABout 85-90% hit rate to make me laugh.

For those that haven't heard of it, there is a newer cartoon out there called The Argyle Sweater. Here is a link:

It is the closest I have found to Gary Larson's style of humor. It only has about a 60% hit rate to make me laugh - but that is still way better than most any other comic.

I agree with everything in this thread except that Farside was better.

C&H. #1

Farside #2

Nothing else is close to these two for me...and then there is the Family Circus just waiting to suck!

I wish Watterson would have agreed to make a Calvin and Hobbes movie. He could have taken as long as he wanted. The interest would always be there. The philosophy behind some of the strips were great.

I agree it would make tons of money and be a certified hit, but Bill would never, EVER agree to license the strip for anything. He and his lawyers go after unauthorized merchandise with aggressive zeal! It's a shame, but I have to respect his decision to not sell out. That's difficult when they dangle probably 8 figures in front of you (him)...
