Who doesn't want him to succeed ? He's making my squad no matter what. The Browns need quality individuals, cause they aren't exactly the NFL's Valhalla !

@PatMcManamon will Shaw beat out Thigpen as 3rd string QB? #BrownsMail

@PatMcManamon I haven't seen enough of Connor Shaw to say for sure, but from what I've seen of Tyler Thigpen I'd say the possibility exists.

That kid is 24 years old, isn't he? I doubt he is a kid anymore.

Cleveland Browns beat writer Mary Kay answers question about how Connor is doing in this June 13 article: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...rowns_use.html

Quote:

How is (former South Carolina quarterback) Connor Shaw doing in camp so far? I have not seen anything published about him. Thanks.

- Chuck Fitzgerald, Chagrin Falls, Ohio

Hey Chuck: I've been more impressed with Shaw than any of the other undrafted free agents this offseason. He's almost like a poor man's Johnny Manziel, with his ability to run around and make plays. Shaw threw 24 touchdown passes against only one interception last season is the winningest quarterback in Gamecocks history at 26-5, including 17-0 at home. Like Manziel, he's only about 6'0'' but zips around to find the throwing lanes. Shaw will be a candidate for the practice squad if the Browns don't keep him on the 53-man roster.

Kevin Jones of Browns.com made some good points about potentially keeping Shaw on the roster:

Shaw has become more comfortable making quick throws while not scampering around. The one good thing going forward about his mobility: he would be an excellent practice simulator of quarterbacks like Jake Locker, E.J. Manual and even to a degree Cam Newton – all on the Browns’ 2014 schedule.

What player departure was hardest to accept?

Katie D.:

Despite the fact that he hasn't even been gone that long yet, I'm going with Connor Shaw. Now that baseball season is over and I'm looking forward to football season, it's weird to think he won't be under center this season. The Missouri game obviously made him a legend, but it's his overall career and the way he conducted himself - on and off the field - that makes him one of my favorite Gamecocks of all time. I know athletes are approximately 650 percent tougher than I am and play through all sorts of stuff, but Connor's refusal to give anything less than his best and his ability to will the team to win, even when he was varying degrees of injured, made me really, really proud to have him in the Garnet and Black. I'll also never forget watching him get emotional after the Capital One Bowl, then going to the post-game presser and listening to him praise his teammates repeatedly, and finally seeing him find out from Spurrier that he was going to the Combine. Also, because I'm a sucker for stories like this one, I kind of love that he grew up idolizing Spurrier, then got to play for him and become the winningest QB in school history with the HBC as his coach.

Also,

ESPN's Tony Grossi's June 14 Cleveland Q & A:

Quote:

Hey Tony: You have mentioned a few times that the Browns will decide whether to keep Tyler Thigpen or Connor Shaw. Why not keep Thigpen as the third QB and assign Shaw to the practice squad? That gives Shaw a chance to grow as a QB in the system and the Browns a veteran presence in Thigpen should the third QB be called into action.

-- John, Woodbridge, VA

Hey John: It may very well turn out the way you suggest. But let’s get a closer look at Thigpen and Shaw before making roster predictions.
