UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

A flyweight title scrap is on the line tonight, when Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson defends the 125# belt vs Ali Bagautinov.

I am very excited about some of the undercard scraps including Rory Macdonald vs Tyron Woodley... Those two are hard hitters and should bring some pain. Also we have Ryan Jimmo (who does the best 'robot' victory dance!) vs Ovince St Preaux, who used to play college football with the. Tennessee Volunteers.

We also get to welcome back former HWT champion Andrei Arlovsky to the UFC, where he will match up vs former NFL player Brendon Schaub.

Overall a very entertaining night of action tonight!

Ryan Jimmo vs Ovince St. Preaux

Rd 1- low kick by Jimmo answered by a body kick from OSP. OSP hitting hard and lands on the temple. Jimmo presses against the cage but OSP is comfy. Now Jimmo gets turned to the fence but tries to throw OSP. Good defense and they separate. Ryan with blood on his nose. Jimmo throws a straight left to the throat, nice but no damage. Jimmo kicking all over high to low but OSP muscles him to the ground as time ends.

OSP may have taken the round 10-9

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 2- Jimmo comes in hard and lands a hand/foot combo. OSP catches a kick and he trips Jimmo to the mat and works to mount, then takes the back against the fence. Jimmo hand fights to avoid the rear naked choke. OSP pulls Ryan's arm behind and up his back which may have broken the arm! Jimmo is stopped by referee stoppage of a verbal tap out..

OSP wins via verbal submission

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Andrei Arlovsky vs Brendon Schaub

Arlovsky returns after a 6 year absence from the UFC...

Rd 1- Andrei rushes in and muscles Schaub to the cage. Not much going on but they break and Schaub throws a good right. Andrei back against the fence and controlling Schaub and now they meet in center octagon. Trading hands and Brendon gets the better end. Andrei misses on a throw attempt. Round ends with another clinch on the fence.

Hard to judge that round but Schaub did better with his hands...

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 2- opens with an accidental club of the gonads! Ouch, but fight resumes. Body shot and an uppercut lands for Arlovsky? Back on the cage. Off of the cage and Schaub has a cut on his left eyebrow. Neither fighter is pulling the trigger much. 1-2 punches each and Andrei against the cage. The crowd boos as Andrei defends a takedown attempt. Clashing like fencers, in short bursts. Schaub lands a straight left that rocks Andrei! Best punch landed so far.

Schaub gets a razor thin round victory

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 3- Schaub comes in with windmill arms swinging, then they get warned not to bump heads. Schaub gets a takedown via trip! He's tired and Andrei is content to defend. Neither fighter tying to advance their position. Schaub throws but not much juice on them. Schaub is busier but gets kicked off and they are on the feet. Schaub wih a nose bleed but was more dominant for most of the round. Schaub changes levels well twice and should get the decision.

Brendon has swelling on his right cheek that looks pretty serious.

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Andrei Arlovsky wins a split decision... Then he asks the crowd not to boo him.

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Ryan Bader vs Rafael 'Feijao

Rd 1- Bader is strong as he opens with combos and lands an early takedown. Now both up but Bader has Feijao's back and drags him to his knees.Bader throws knees into the hamstring as he tries to trip. Bader misses an elbow and back to the center. Feijao's lands a weak left hook but both get jabs in. Bader drives thru another double leg takedown as he lands left hands from the back of Feijao. And then elbows... Omg a crack sound follows a knee to the ribs of Feijao but no damage shown.

Bader wins round 10-9

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 2- Feijao lands a kick to the body and Bader misses a headkick. Takedown against the fence by Bader and gives more ground and pound. Knees to the hops but Feijao explodes up and escapes. Bader has crisp jabs but doesn't follow up with much but lands a body shot followed by a takedown. End of round.

Bader pitching a shutout so far

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 3- Feijao lands a left and right immediately but no damage done. Feijao has a front head lock but Bader gets up and are against the cage. Feijao pushes Bader off him and on his butt! Manhandled was Bader! Back on their feet. Takedown by Bader who is dictating the pace and place of this fight. Bader grounding and pounding his opponent. Feijao tries some elbows from the bottom but are ineffective.

Bader should win a unanimous decision.

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Now we have the co-main event of the evening...

Rory Macdonald vs Tyron Woodley at 170#'s

Rd 1- Woodley is sporting a righteous set of chin whiskers! Rory comes out with an upkick and then takes some knees from Tyron. Tory with a switch kick that is sweet on technique! Tyron presses Rory to the cage but he spins away. Woodley lands a big right then takes Rory down. But Rory bounces right up and defends the next attempt. Rory with a multi punch attack and lands most.

Tight round to judge, I think Tyron won it 10-9

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 12:33 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 2- Rory misses an axe kick and defends a takedown attempt. Woodley fighting with his back on the fence. Woodley kicks but eats some head and body combos. Rory has him measured and is landing more. Now both are looking sluggish without much action. Rory is cutting the octagon off and lands a headkick. Rory moving in and out and landing everywhere.

Rory wins that round 10-9

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 12:39 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 3- big exchange as Tyron comes out and lands a heavy right hand. But then slows down and is backing up on the fence. Rory isn't pouncing much at all but is landing body shots, then gets a double Leg takedown on Tyron. Woodley controlling Rory from the bottom with good wrist grip. Woodley tries an upkick but has to sit in the guard as Rory briefly achieved a full mount position. Side control let's Rory pound on Tyron's head for 30 seconds straight.

Rory wins a decision, possibly unanimous... And it was!

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

And..........NOW!!! The main event of the evening!

The flyweight (125#'s) champion Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov...

Rd 1- feeling out for a minute or so. Ali lands a body kick but not much else happening. MM switches stances and is fighting southpaw. Ali pushes MM to the cage but MM defends all attempt at taking him down. MM lands some high knees and Ali trades some knees also. MM flips fence position and MM throws a half dozen body blows by his knees. Ali takes down MM who pops back up quickly.

Takedown gives a close round to Ali, imo

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 01:09 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 2- MM lands some inside leg kicks then clinches and a muay Thai plumb grip. MM puts his left shin on Ali's jaw but no damage seen. Back to southpaw, MM lands a big right. Ali gives a big headkick to MM but no effect seen. A clinch on the cage by Ali and MM gives more knees

MM wins round 10-9

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 01:16 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 3- MM moving all around and is fast, like a marsupial lol! Another shin to the mug by MM and a short lived clinch. Counter right hand by MM lands strongly. Great head movement by MM and peppers the guy with speedy shots. MM makes a mistake and Ali takes his back and throws him suplex style. Ali tries a takedown and eats a knee but lands another takedown.

MM wins another round

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 01:22 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 4- Championship rounds! Ali's hands are low... Nothing landing but a lot being thrown. MM lands a good body kick and then a leg kick. MM slipped and gets drilled as he pops up though no damage done. Ali with Johnson clinched against the fence but can't do anything productive. Johnson finishes the round on Ali's back.

MM wins the round 10-9

catdaddy66 06-15-2014 01:28 AM

Re: UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov

Rd 5- and they hug... MM is still very fast as they both throw many punches. Ali tries a single leg but MM defends well. MM gets about 5-7 blows in on Ali in a single burst. Ali bends MM backwards but can't finish the attempt. MM pulls a wheel kick but misses it. MM charging in with kicks and hands as Ali tries body shots.

MM should win a unanimous decision. And officially wins 50-45, a shutout.
