Casey Kasem Has Died

This was not unexpected. He had been in declining health for some time. Many of user remember him not only as the host of American Top 40. Many of us also remember him as the voice of Shaggy (Scooby Doo's owner) as well as other characters on other cartoon programs.

Sad news...even sadder story of his family towards the end. Kasem had been battling dementia for several years now. His children had been arguing over his estate for years, but then joined forces against Kasem's wife for control over watching over Casey. His wife had taken him out of his assisted living facility he had been living in without their knowledge, and took him to other countries and places to see friends and just enjoy the sites. They sued her over control of watching over Casey, but I believe the court ruled against them. Hopefully he did enjoy those adventures, and is off on a great one now...

Never forget listening to him. "Im Casey Kasem". One of my favorite Saved By The Bell Episodes.

Yep an icon growing up in the late-70's through the 80's.

SiriusXM 70's On 7 still plays the countdowns (80's On 8 used to play his but now has their own DJ's doing it) and up until a few weeks ago the shows would open with a promo recorded by Casey about five years ago welcoming everyone to "go back to this week in 197x", and sadly even then he sounded about 900 years old. Now they alternate promos from Brian May of Queen and Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad.

Very sad too how things ended up with his family the last few years.

I grew up on listening to Casey Kasem in the 80's and 90's. He sure has seen his good share of great music.
