Wimbledon 2014

June 23rd-July 6th

Lots of info on the revamped website.

http://www.wimbledon.com/index.html

Lots of interesting match-ups in the first two days. Andy Murray and Djokovic seem to be the early favorites, but I'm expecting a lot of surprises this year.

On the womens side, look out for Madison Keys (USA). She won a grass court tourney on Saturday in England. Her first Championship. She's just 19, but she has a good game and a great serve. Of course, Serena will have a lot to say about who lifts the trophy.

Who are your early favorites? Any upset alerts?

Rafa Nadal loses his first set to Martin Klizan 6-4.

Re: Wimbledon 2014

Hoping both Williams sisters lose early so I don't have to watch them. Especially Serena.

I still like Sharapova and she is doing well for her age still.

Victoria Azarenka is probably my favorite to watch right now...I love her grunt.

Ivanovic is also a hottie who can play well. Pulling for her.

Also watching out for Sorana Cirstea. She beat this year's #2 seed Li Na a couple years ago at Wimbledon.

Basically, I have always enjoyed women's tennis much more than men's tennis. Not just because many of them can be easy on the eyes, but I find that the sport is tailored to their finesse and athleticism more.

Azarenka is one of my fav's, as well. Hope she does well, but she's just coming back from injury. She did look pretty good last week on grass.

Halep has been playing great lately.

Maria sailed through her first match and it looks like Serena will cruise, as well.

Rafa won in four sets. Djokic won in a blink of an eye and Murray is through to the second round. So is Stanimal.

And Federer has advanced.

Don't really follow tennis that much, but I enjoy watching it when I come across it channel surfing.

Does Caroline Wozniaki still play? I remember her matches being nice to watch.

So Cirstea is gone, hate I missed that...but she did lose to an American.

Yep. Still a top 30 player but I think she suffered an injury since her days of being number 1.

Wozniaki is coming of a semi-final finish at Eastbourne last week. She looked pretty good in more ways than one. She got jolted by Rory Mcllroy not long ago. Wedding planed and invites sent, and he calls it off...

I wouldn't be surprised to see her do well at Wimbledon.

Re: Wimbledon 2014

Wozniacki won today.

American Lauren Davis beat the #12 ranked F. Pennetta today in straight sets.

Djokovic won in four sets in a tight match.

Andy Murray beat former Ohio St player Blaz Rola in straight sets, but Blaz put up a decent fight although the score want show it.

American Sam Querrey is the man right now. He's in a marathon match against Tsonga. Sam and Tsonga are tied at 9 games each in the fifth set. No tie breakers in the fifth set. Play was suspended due to darkness. Sam will serve first when play resumes tomorrow. Huge win for Sam if he can pull through.

Isner has advanced.

Grass courts.

I like Clay better. A lot more finesse involved. However, as an occasional serve and vollyier myself, I like to watch the players that are aggressive like that from time to time.

Giorgi is a young italian that hits the ball as hard as she can nearly every point and her dad is her coach and he's a trip to watch. WTS, I hope Riske can win this one.

And a huge match for Madison Keys today.

Rafa is down a set and a break to Lukas Rosol in the second set. Lukas is the guy who sent Rafa home 2 years ago early at SW19.

They won't be around for the second week. Serena lost to Alize Cornet yesterday in 3 sets.

It was her earliest Wimbledon exit since 2005 and and only the third time in 15 visits to SW19 that she has been knocked out so early.

Went to Wimbledon in 1986..... the year Becker won as a teenager. Everything is different now. Ground and grass are much different......much slower.......nobody serves and volleys any more.

Great atmosphere, though. I was there in 2000, would like to go back for a day or two.

A lot of good matches today. Isner is in the 3rd Round against Feliciano Lopez. Lopez great on grass. And Lopez loves to serve and volley. WTS, I'd love to see Isner go deep in the tourney.

So much for Isner, he's out in four sets...

Let's go Lisicki! Took out Ivanovic today. Radwanska is about to get the boot.

Sharapova looked down and out barely forcing a 3rd set.

Down 5-4 in 3rd set and doesn't look good.

Wow, Sharapova has fought back from 6 match points starting from 0-40 and has it dueced up.

Sharapova can't finish the comeback.
