I question some of those on that list. How can you have Star Wars but NOT Empire Strikes Back? And not one John Wayne movie??? And where was Gone With The Wind???

But hey...they got my trifecta in there...The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, and THE SANDLOT!

Re: 100 Movies you need to see before you die

Any list like this is going to have a few head-scratchers and, in the interest of being well-rounded, will throw a bone to every niche under the sun (they include anime, Jon Waters, blacksploitation, Martial Arts, Slasher, Vampires, Disney, and even some porn). I saw about 5 things on there, though, that make no sense to me. Like The Social Network, Scream, Videodrome, Mean Girls, and Memento. None of those seem remotely essential or special in the grand landscape of cinema. Also, there are way too many Spielberg movies (even though I love most of them).

All of this at the expense of some really special films and filmmakers. I'll just mention a few omissions that really irk me.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?
Bonnie and Clyde
Dr. Strangelove

All of these helped change American Cinema in the 60s, and more importantly, all of them are great films by legendary directors. The next ones are more about my tastes, but I think they are special for objective reasons (certainly more than Mean Girls).

Network
Paris, Texas
Days of Heaven
The Bicycle Thief
Spring Breakers
Anything by Spike Jonze

And, I don't recall seeing a documentary on there. I'd probably include Woodstock or Harlan County, USA, but there are plenty others.

And, finally, Babe: Pig in the City. It really is amazing!

I have actually seen about 75-80% of those listed. And I have a new list to begin watching... Hell yeah!

One glaring omission was Easy Rider...

Any list like this must include 'The Searchers'.

Re: 100 Movies you need to see before you die

I've seen 44 of those listed. Of those 44, there are at least a couple I wish I had never watched. Of the remaining 56, I have very little desire to see even half. Lists like this one make me wonder whether or not it is meant to be serious or is it just some dude trolling the internet.

And how in the hell did this guy leave off The Shawshank Redemption?

I may have overlooked them but Caddyshack and Fight Club should be on every movie list.
