100 Years Ago Today, June 28, 1914...

Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife Sofie were assassinated. This touched off WW1, and when it was all over, over 10 million soldiers were dead, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire were broken up, and the seeds were sown for even worse conflict a generation later.

It also led to the break up of the German Empire and Russian Empire along with the Russian Revolution starting. Also a major component to women gaining suffrage.

Don't forget the handling by the Allies towards Germany ultimately led to the Holocaust, had the blame been put on the right people 12 million people wouldn't have been killed.

Europe put a revolver to its head and pulled the trigger, and after staggering around for 20 years, fired another round.

The inevitable death of the West all stems from the couple of rounds fired by Gavrilo Princep.
