Why is Scott Wingo no longer playing?

I saw on Gamecock Central that Scott Wingo is no longer playing. He was just listed as not playing anymore. No explanation.

Yep I just saw on Minor League baseball he was batting .091. Ouch! Really wanted him to succeed. Probably best 2nd baseman we ever had defensively.

He was good, but not our best ever. Jeff Grantz is based on Fielding%. But there has also been Stacy Stokes, Kevin Mellilo, Szwejbka, the list goes on.

Out of only 11 ABs...He hit .302 with 4 HR and 17 RBIs his first year but declined after that. He won't have a problem finding a higher paying job in SC now though.

It seemed like the guy only ever hit clutch hits. He never had a stellar average.

His OBP was pretty high though. Might have a little to do with his knack for HBP ;).

They probably found a black spot in his hitting zone, and he wasn't able to adjust to it...kinda like with that Clint Eastwood movie "Trouble With The Curve"....

I guess maybe best in CWS play.

You know I'm really curious as to what Auburn fans think about Scott Wingo

That diving stop in the CWSCG was freakin amazing. What a great part of a magical team.

He'll make it back on a team and into the bigs. When they ask him how he did it he will say: Just BATTLE

BY THE WAY, the .091 was over 5 games, so meaningless

Re: Why is Scott Wingo no longer playing?

THe lack of hitting is what did it.
System scouts don't look at clutch, they look at numbers and power.
Wingo was never a for-average hitter, and that was going to be his battle in the minors.

Defensively, I think Wingo could've made the show...but offense, just didn't have enough for a prototypical second baseman.

As said, he won't have a problem getting a job here in SC.

I would like to see him come back to Columbia and help the team in some capacity. His leadership was outstanding. He got me jacked up on many occasions. Just battle!

I am a baseball coach at a high school in the upstate and he spoke at our high camp a week ago. He is actually working in Greenville this summer and then going back school in the fall to do grad work. He is also going to be the GA this year. Super nice guy and very approachable. He had a lot of good things to say to our young kids. We even had some kids that were Clemson fans lining up for his autograph.
