UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

1 Attachment(s)
I wanted to get this out there early. A much better card for tomorrow's event than last months... UFC 174 reportedly did less than 100K PPV's. Tonight we have big name fighters in Weidman, Machida, Rousey, Faber, et al.

The poster has the wrong date. It's Saturday July 5th. Sonnen vs Belfort ain't happening either! Here is the card in full:

Machida will be the most elusive fighter Weidman has faced. The strap could change hands tonight!

Is that your prediction?

Chris is a beast and things certainly have gone his way lately but I agree. If Machida can keep it a clean standup fight I expect him to have an advantage. CW needs to dirty the fight up I think.

I think he'll use his wrestling and get it to the ground. I think he loses a standup fight with Lyoto.

I may not go so far as to say it will happen. It could, but Weidman can flat out grapple! He was an All American, and I recently watched him beat Ryan Bader in a college match years ago.

I absolutely love Machida's style! He pisses people off (Tito Ortiz) with his unorthodox striking and defense. He is so unique and challenging, but far from a lock to win it. It will probably come down to experience keeping the fight where he wants it. That would be standing...

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Next up is Uriah Faber vs Alex Caceras in the featherweight division (145#'s)

catdaddy66 07-05-2014 10:24 PM

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 1- Faber shoots a single but AC defends and they end up in the clinch with Faber throwing a knee to the head. Faber lands a right and takes down AC while trying to deliver G&P. Caceras controls Fabers distance to avoid absorbing damage. Faber lands a right elbow to the noggin, then tries to slam AC but can't finish. AC trying to throw a bit from bottom position. Just as the period ended they stand and Faber gets a knee in at the bell.

Faber wins rd 10-9

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 2- Faber throws then drops to a double leg and scores a takedown. Looks like Uriah will dictate where this fight happens. Back to the feet now, and Faber eats some hands as he tried to get a single leg. Then they bounce up with Faber on AC's back. Another takedown by Uriah... Caceras with a side kick that touches Fabers chin but no damage. Faber hits osotogari! Head over heels judo throw on AC! Sweet. Round finishes on feet in the clinch.

Faber wins rd 10-9

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 3- Caceras has the reach on Faber and nullifies that by clinching again. Faber catches a leg and drills Caceras twice in he mouth as he goes down. Faber has his back and Caceras taps quickly to a rear naked choke!

Faber wins via submisission (RNC)

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Main Card starts now... First up, Marcus Brimmage vs Russell Doane
In the bantamweight division (135#'s)

catdaddy66 07-05-2014 11:04 PM

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 1- Doane starts with a combo that doesn't land but just misses a headkick. Doane blasts a double to takedown Marcus, then spins to his back. Now with a hook in he takes his back but hasn't ... just got the other hook in. Trying for the choke but Marcus is hand fighting well. Now Doane gives some punishment before they bounce up to their feet. Brimmage lands a hard inside leg kick as round ends.

Doane wins rd 10-9

catdaddy66 07-05-2014 11:10 PM

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 2- another strong leg kick by Marcus followed by left hand that knocks down Doane. Back to the feet, both keep their distance. Perfectly timed shot by Doane to counter a left earns a takedown. Again Doane on the back with a hook in... Now in a clinch on the fence.

Doane wins rd 10-9

catdaddy66 07-05-2014 11:16 PM

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Rd 3- Doane lands a headkick but Brimmage takes him down after grabbing the leg. Back to the feet, but neither willing to close the distance. Doane hits a couple kicks to body and head without effect. Marcus defends a takedown and gets a right hand on the dome.

Not much to judge that rd, but I believe Doane wins a unanimous decision 30-27. Damn, Doane wins by split decision.

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Damn! Stefan Struve has been removed (last minute) from his match with Matt Mitrione for health reasons. I was under the impression he had recently been cleared to fight after receiving treatment for a cardiac condition.

That sucks...

Re: UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida

Sorry! BWW's wifi went haywire... The biggest development in the Uriah Hall vs Thiago Santos fight is that Hall has broken his right toe but the MD has been allowed to continue fighting. Santos a doing some serious spinning kicks but minimal damage. Hall lands a right hand and a combo. Hall landing some strikes now in 3rd rd and moving as if he isn't injured. Now Hall gets a break after a shot to the jewels. Once restarted Hall avoids a takedown but ends in a side clinch on the fence. Santos takes Hall down but has to defend a kimura as he does so. Props to Hall for fighting injured!
