There was an earthquake in San Fran last night

According to resident Karen Hunt, this earthquake was devastating because

Quote:

Hunt, who has lived in Napa since 1996, owns a winery. She said she heard from her partner that her 2011 and 2012 vintages had been destroyed.

ďThatís pretty devastating if thatís the case,Ē she said.
Also,

Quote:

Arik Housley said he passed a mobile home park where multiple fires could be seen as he drove to one of his stores to assess the damage. Housley said the shelving in his store had moved 2 feet to 3 feet from the wall, and much of his inventory had fallen to the floor, including $200 bottles of wine. Many merchants in the area forgo earthquake insurance because itís too expensive, he said.

I truly hope that their expensive wines and mansions in Napa Valley made it through okay, and nobody's Lexus was damaged

Damn I hope other wineries didn't have similar experiences. The 2012 vintage is supossed to be one of the best in a long time. Good thing the '13 vintage, which is supposed to be very good too, is still in barrel.

Worse one since '89.

No way I would ever live in that state. If the earthquakes don't get you, the wildfires will. If the wildfires don't get you, the mudslides off the hills cleared by the wildfires will.

It looks like the quake was to he north of the bay and hit the Napa Valley rather hard.

Yeah, it's not good. Saw another picture where all the barrels had fallen off their racks. Couldn't tell if wine was lost or not.

That will teach them. Hopefully, they will put up locking doors or other devices to prevent the bottles from being shaken off the shelves.

I live 75 miles from Napa. I didn't feel a thing. My mom texted me yesterday asking am I okay from the earthquake. I had no idea what she was talking about. I've lived in California for 13 years and have never felt an earthquake.

Are earthquakes an issue here? Sure, but not all areas are dangerous. I was living in SC when an earthquake hit in 1997. I've never experienced a mudslide of wildfire here in SC.

So many people make an issue of this stuff out here. Are they things to be concerned about? Sure but it's no different than living in areas with tornadoes or hurricanes. We don't get either of those (rarely) so it's just a different type of danger for another part of the country dealing with the forces of nature we will never be able to control.
