Past SEC Champions who had a BAD loss...

Just to boost some hope....past SEC champions who suffered a bad loss (or any other conference champs if you can think of them):

2001: LSU had THREE, yes, 3 conference losses: lost by 8 to Tennessee, lost 44-15 to Florida in Baton Rouge, and later lost by 9 to unranked Ole Miss. And THEY ended up winning the SEC!!

2000: Steve Spurrier's UF Gators lost to a mediocre Miss State team, then got hammered by Florida State 30-7. They ended up winning the SEC.

1999: Alabama lost, at home, to Louisiana Tech. Later lost by 14 to Tennessee. And won the SEC.

2007: LSU won the SEC and NC, and they lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, who were both sub .500 in the SEC that year
2008: Florida has a pretty stunning learly oss at The Swamp to Ole Miss. The famous Tim Tebow speech afterwards. They ended up winning the SEC!

2005: Georgia lost BACK TO BACK games...to Florida and Auburn. Both great teams. But, losing back to back weeks...we'd be panicked. They weren't, and won the SEC.

2003: LSU lost by 12 points to Florida, pre-Meyer and Tebow, that Florida team went 7-5, so it was not a "great" Florida team. LSU won it all later that year.

Anyway, that's just a few off the top of my head guys. Hell, even Clemson, in 2011 they won the ACC.....after being beaten 31-17 by GA Tech, and beating manhandled 37-13 by NC State!!

Just sayin'....a LOT of past conference champions have had an ugly Saturday happen to them. Lets just hope USC will be another...whose ugly day happened to occur in Week 1.

Not to mention....lets say we lose @ Auburn, but find a way to beat UGA and UF, and take care of business with UT, UK, VU and Mizzou. We'd be 6-2 in SEC. UF has LSU and Bama on the schedule. UGA has Auburn...not to mention Arkansas looks a lot better and they are in Little Rock for that one, plus, UF and UGA play each other.

This loss is just ONE loss.

One problem...we didn't win the SEC championship.

Yes, the goal is still alive...and who knows, TAMU could be a national title contender...but what we saw last Thursday ain't a quick fix. This Saturday will be telling...does the team bounce back, or do they regress.

We lose to ECU, this season is done. No way we beat UGA, UF or Mizzou...probably still beat Kentucky and Vandy (we lose to Vandy Tanner should be rolling heads).

Well, the UT fan on here obviously missed the context and point of this thread. That USC is obviously NOT the SEC champ....but, after a very bad loss, still COULD be, as many SEC teams in the past have recovered from a bad loss to win it.

BTW, UT fan, did you notice the parallel between Tennessee's gradual decline in football....and their program's slowing of recruiting South Carolina born players? The UT glory years from 1995-2002 saw them recruiting a LOT of in-state SC recruits. You're welcome.

Re: Past SEC Champions who had a BAD loss...

Look at 2010 is a perfect example. We beat Alabama one week and the next we blow a 21 pt lead at Kentucky the next week. Then we get our butts kicked at home against Ark and the very next week we kicked Florida's behind in the Swamp. My point being is College Football is unpredictable and maybe a loss like this wakes us up. I mean we have had top 15 and top recruiting classes year in and year out and every year we will have strengths and weaknesses just like everybody else. My point is I am old enough to remember the Brad Scott era and the 0-11/1-21 days. This team is not horrible just young on the defensive side. We can't just give up on the team after week 1 just cause it went sour. Even Texas and Southern Cal go through dry spells so how bout we let the season play out instead of bashing guys after just 1 game like the season is already over. I trust the coaching staff and players take it personally and are embarrassed what happened the other night just like it hurt us to watch as fans. My point is no matter how bad we get I hope we still support the team. Too many people need to step off the ledge just bc of 1 game. It happens to the best so how bout let's forget about last Thurs and beat ECU and let the season play out before we talk about how this is going to be a sorry season!! #Gamecock4life

Each of these teams had a ton of talent, on the field leaders and some superstars. Yet to be determined if we have any of that left here.

The winner of the East will have 2 losses, book it. We just need to beat Jawja and Missouri.

You make a good, non-chronological, point.
