Pirate Depth Chart

https://eastcarolina.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp?

ECU looks to have the classic stump at nose tackle 6-1, 324lbs.
They have the smallest OL we'll see this year so if our DL can't pressure their QB we will know there is little hope the 2014 DL can play with the big boys of the SEC.
Their DBs are all SR or Jr and good sized.
They have big LBs........Dylan can exploit this?
It looks like ECU can put some beef in the box so if we can run against them it will be a very good sign for us.

Gunna be hard to get pressure with the style of offense they have been running for a while.

They had 99 plays. That is more plays than any defense should be on the field for. After 80 plays a typical defense is worn out.
They threw 60 times. I thought my eyes deceived me when I read that stat. Why no INTs?
On our DL I thought only Gerald Dixon played SEC caliber ball.
Where was Darius English? I can't remember seeing his number.
Where was Surrat?

If you will notice this depth chart is from 2012. We are not, I repeat not small.

Re: Pirate Depth Chart

ECU runs an offense where they they snap the ball and get it out of the QB's hands in quick fashion.....so quick that Coach Ward - and Coach Johnson before him - has stated that it's pointless to try and rush at him because it's just be a waste of energy and effort on the DE's part. The ECU QB gets it out quick to the flats or to the sidelines, and then lets the receiver gain YAC.

In the past we've chosen to not rely on TFL or QB sacks, getting only 4 TFL and 1 sack vs ECU in our 2011 and 2012 games combined. So I would expect that any of those type stats we get against them this Saturday to be bonus stats. But we've been able to disrupt their passing lanes and get a number of INTs, and while we allowed them to rack up some yardage between the 20s, we've been able to mostly keep them out of the endzone, not counting the 1st half of the 2011 game where we handed them 4 fumbles on our side of the field which helped them to score a bunch of early points.

But those '11 and '12 teams had fairly experienced LB and DB units, and we looked so lost against TAMU that they were pretty much popping big gains and 1st down gains with snap of the FB. Our guys need to grow up a ton and very quickly, or it won't be fun at all this weekend....

One player some here who follow recruiting may remember, that should start at LG for the Pirates will be Quincy McKinney. McKinney was once committed to USC out of high school, but failed to make the grades and went the JUCO route. USC chose to not recruit him the 2nd time around, and he wound up at ECU...

Here is a link to our actual depth chart. NT Terry Williams may or not be back for this game.

True, but Mckinney actually ended up at NCSU and that is when he had grade issues and went to JUCO. At JUCO he was recruited again by NCSU and was actually a Louisville commitment that we flipped last signing day.

Here is an ECU depth chart you can actually read.

Their nose tackle (93 Chrishon Rose 6-4 303 Sr-3L) is pretty tall. That is atypical for a nose tackle. Excessive height allows OL to get underneath and dicate.

I'm not doing the research but he said "smallest we play this year". He didn't say you guys were small. I haven't checked Furmand roster, so yall may be bigger.

This depth chart is way off. The one I posted above while difficult to read is accurate.

Maybe, don't think a depth chart from 2012 is going to help anyone inform the your opinion. Our OL is SEC size upfront imo.

Here is a readable version of their offensive depth chart from their game against NCCU:

Inside receiver (H)
Isaiah Jones 6'1" 186 So.
Cedric Thompson 5'9" 183 Jr.

Left Tackle
Ike Harris 6'7" 304 Jr.
Stewart Hinson 6'7" 296 Jr.

Left Guard
Quincy McKinney 6'4" 311 Jr.
Will Foxx 6'2" 313 Jr.

Center
Taylor Hudson 6'5" 285 Sr.
C.J. Struyk 6'2" 296 Jr.

Right Guard
Tre Robertson 6'5" 310 Jr.
J.T. Boyd 6'4" 302 So.

Right Tackle
Dontae Levingston 6'4" 293 Jr.
Brandon Smith 6'8" 336 RS Fr.

Quarterback
Shane Carden 6'2" 221 Sr.
Kurt Benkert 6'3" 220 RS Fr.

Running back
Breon Allen 5'8" 190 Sr.
Chris Hairston 6'0" 197 Jr.
Marquez Grayson 6'1" 200 RS Fr.

Inside Receiver (Y)
Justin Hardy 6'0" 188 Sr.
Bryce Williams 6'6" 250 Jr.

Outside receiver (Z)
Davon Grayson 6'2" 196 So.
Jimmy Williams 5'11" 180 So.

Here is the official roster.

FWIW, their OL starters average 300.6 pounds. For the sake of comparison, our OL starters average 314 pounds. So they're at least close to SEC size on the OL.

Paper rosters mean nothing, hence our week one suckfest. ECU has plenty of talent on offense, their defense is just OK. We have better depth and speed, but poor coaching or untimely turnovers could lose us this one.

You're right: I got that mixed up - McKinney initially signed with USC as part of Clowney's 2011 class, but went to Fork Union (prep school), not JUCO. Then in 2012 USC chose not to pursue him again, and he ended up at NC State, but then got into academic issues and went to JUCO. After that he ended up at ECU.....

Yes, in both previous games. Hardy's a senior, and is one of those players that seems to have been with his college team for decades. He was 2nd on the ECU team in 2011 with 11 receptions for 91 yds and 1 td, and led the Pirates in '12 with 8 catches for 111 yds and 1 td. He will be Target #1 for our young CBs....

Re: Pirate Depth Chart

He had over 1000 yards the last two years and over 100 receptions and is on pace to break ryan broyles all time reception record. He has great hands and makes it look easy on punt returns and catches that normal people wouldnt catch. Thank you conway that was an accurate assessment.

Damn I though Hardy was gone by now. Not good.
