Its fascinating how ONE injury has set 40% of this unit into a revolving door.

ONE.

I know. Matulis would have the RG spot locked down and it would be a 4 way battle for the best center between Stadnick, Waldrop, Knott and potentially Sport

im not sure if theyre placing some of the protection busts on clayton as well or if its knott being more physical. coach elliott was saying in the week leading up to the opener that he wished knott had been available for the whole camp because he may have ended up being the starter at center.
hopefully the light has come on for sport.

Is Mike Matulis still on track to return later in the year?

When I watched the replay of the A&M game, Waldrop noticeably struggled.

Yes, Waldrop struggled pretty bad in the game. Maybe he isn't fully healed from the oblique strain.

SOS said in his presser that he's likely a mid-season guy, hopefully.

I'm hoping that's the problem.

I'd hoped and expected that our OL would this year be our team's greatest strength. Hopefully they now have the mix just right.

Looked that way on paper...unfortunately what good is great size if they get outmaneuvered by smaller guys?

I'm hoping we aren't a paper team. The next 2 weeks will tell.

According to a Shawn Elliott interview a few weeks back, Alan Knott has been playing well all fall camp. The only thing that was holding him back was the fact he missed half of camp with an injury.

And so it starts..same thing every year. It seems they (Elliot) has issues setting a 1st team that works out of the gate and then when an injury occurs it's a complete shuffling for several weeks until they get it worked out. Around week 4-6 we will have it set.

I was always fascinated why everyone assumed the o line was great. Just because they're experienced doesn't make them good. I don't see how a part of the team that was seen as a weakness for the past 3 years can all of a sudden become the strength. I think it's relative because every where else on offense there are questions. Shaws mobility hid a lot of issues.

Yep. Elliott said Knott would of been the starting Center game 1 if not for the knee that held him out for a lot of camp

Agree...we are too slow...not sure what the solution is besides recruiting faster OL. We used to convert DL into OL and sometimes it worked out...Jamon Meredith and Lem Jeanpierre...both still playing NFL.

I agree. I think the game is slowly moving this way and will change. IMO OL should be less fat. Less body fat, quicker, more athletic and more bend.

Also on D. Huge 300+ DTs that are slow(mostly hight body fat%) are almost useless now Vs all the spread up tempo offenses.

Re: Sport to start

Well it could be worse... Texas lost their starting center for the year (most experienced o-lineman by far) and Charlie Strong dismissed the two starting tackles. So while we may be concerned about our condition just think that we could always have it worse.
