Weather on Saturday

Just checked weather.com and I'm seeing a 50% chance of PM storms on Saturday. Growing up in Columbia I definitely realize how unpredictable SC weather can be, especially pop-up summer showers. Just wanted to give a warning to all tailgaters and game-attendees.

Just something to keep an eye on. We're still a few days out so hopefully it clears up!

The past 2 days the showers have been brief and very spotty. May have to hunker down for 5 minutes and then it's over.

I read that as a 50% chance of 100% sunshine.

Accuweather is saying "a t-storm in the evening". More than likely it will one of those storms where it pours in on spot for 5 minutes and then disappears, but just enough to make the humidity even worse.

Fun times!

In advance, this stuff changes and weather models aren't correct 100% ever... but..

Looked over a few computer models and they look pretty spotty at best around game time. Nothing really stands out as a "omg we will have a delayed game!"

Even the "amazing" ECMWF (Euro model) that runs much better than our American models shows the same. Maybe a bit more widespread stuff going on by Monday of next week... but trace amounts this weekend.

None of these models have been very good at picking up some of the severe storm cells of late... which is understandable.. to get the pop ups that could cause problems is dependent on the following conditions:
1) Did we get a lot of sun or was it cloudy? If sunny most the day, daytime heating aids storm development.
2) Is there any energy in the atmosphere swinging through to act as a "trigger" to get the storms to develop?

Thats about it in the summer time around these parts. ^

Snippet from the National Weather Service Forecast Discussion:
Quote:

THE GFS AND ECMWF DISPLAY A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH IN THE FORECAST
AREA SATURDAY WITH THE COLD FRONT MOVING INTO THE AREA SATURDAY
NIGHT AND SUNDAY. THE MODELS SHOW THE FRONT JUST SOUTH OF THE AREA
MONDAY AND TUESDAY WITH THE FEATURE LIFTING NORTHWARD WEDNESDAY.
THE PATTERN SUPPORTS A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH
THE MEDIUM-RANGE PERIOD. THE GFS...ECMWF...AND EKD MOS INDICATE
THE GREATEST SHOWER CHANCE SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
THE ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES SHOULD CONTINUE AHEAD OF THE FRONT THROUGH SATURDAY.
EXPECT NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES DURING THE REST OF THE PERIOD.

Thankfully it's around 7PM when things start to cool off. I believe we are going to peak around 91-93 degrees that day... should be in the mid 80s by game time.. in theory... with a slightly higher heat index.

^^^^ This

Funny how I was told over and over that I would not be back after the game. I said win or lose I would be back.

Not a bad forum and some of you guys are pretty good posters and have good inputs.

I'm still showing 50% tomorrow, with the highest chances around 4pm and 6pm. Anyone else showing anything different?

Updated Discussion from the National Weather Service:

Quote:

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE MOVING INTO THE ATLANTIC BASIN AS THE
COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE NORTHWEST. THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE
WILL ALSO MOVE EASTWARD WITH THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ENTERING THE
EASTERN US SATURDAY NIGHT. MOISTURE AND LIFT WILL INCREASE AHEAD
OF THE FRONT RESULTING IN CHANCES OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT WITH LIKELY THUNDERSTORMS ON SUNDAY.
TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE LOWER 90S SATURDAY WITH UPPER 80S TO
AROUND 90 ON SUNDAY...WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S TO
LOWER 70S.
They are slightly upping their chances.. it's now 40% for the day and night now. Not a good sign.

With that said, looking at computer models.. are even less impressive with rain totals for the Columbia area.
