Re: 2013 NHL Playoffs Thread
The NBA gives way too many days off between games. The NBA playoffs take way too long. I don't really get the NHL doing a day break between each game, but then doing back to back with travel...

Re: 2013 NHL Playoffs Thread
Caps game 7 tonight. Hopefully the refs won't call a 5-0 margin in penalties. Also anyone else watching how badly the Rangers embellish after every hit. For such a physical team the act a hell of...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
So what's to stop them working out the royalties to a deal that will pay the players a lot so they are more enticed to come to their school rather than others schools. Each school will be able to...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
You don't see kids all picking the school that gives them the most royalties as an unfair advantage. Also you don't see how boosters would buy athletes jerseys and such so they could give them extra...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
It's simple why that doesn't work, it is easily corruptible. Just like why they don't let guys sell stuff online, it is easy to funnel money to star athletes. You also realize they will just get...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
Why does the McDonald's cashier only get $8 while the manager gets $25 an hour? Its a business model, since you guys keep saying college sports is a business. You pay the lowest employees, in the...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
Not really. The courts may say if they can use their likeness for a video game, but it won't change the NCAA bylaws. The video games will just adapt the game and info to not mirror the players as...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
Same could be said that the players deserve to make money since the university is making so much. Sounds a lot like Marx and his argument the workers are exploited by the owner.

Re: Paying Student Athletes
That ratio is for need base financial aid not athletic scholarships. Athletic has to be 1-1. Also seeing as over 50% of college students are women, if anything the women are going to get more.

Re: Paying Student Athletes
You bring it back to my first post. If you want to pay them straight money than don't expect a free education. Give them 30k or set pay across the board, which all sports would get, but no free...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
Like I said, you can't change the value of the scholarship for men and not women. If they pay a male athlete 100k a year, then all women get that too. So you can't pay football and not the other...

Not when it comes to what one whole scholarship equals monetarily, which is what you want to change. The NCAA can make rules about how to divide a scholarship, but the total can not be different...

Re: Paying Student Athletes
Untrue. Prestige of their graduates generate money and allows for higher tuition cost. So again, they don't even get a dime, yet make millions for places like Harvard, Princeton, etc.

Not legally. The NCAA made by laws so that they didn't use a baseball scholarship player as a football player too. It is to prevent round about scholarships. Legally all scholarships have to be...

The continue to ignore this. They want all to get free educations, as the minimum and then pay the stars more. So they want to go the other way, instead of a max, they now want only a min.

Re: Paying Student Athletes
The loophole is don't take government funding, assistance or loans. So that's about 2 schools. Good luck affording no government assistance while paying athletes.
