Prediction for CU/Texas A&M (Smack Free)
I can see this Texas A&M thing spiraling out of control pretty fast. It would not surprise me at all if Kevin Sumlin gets dragged down with the Johnny Manziel issue. So my (in my opinion anyway) bold prediction is as follows:
Texas A&M goes 8-5 for the year, losing BADLY in the Gator Bowl to end the year.
In addition to losing to Alabama and LSU in the regular season, they drop two games they were originally projected to win @ Ole Miss and vs. Miss State. Johnny Manziel is not allowed to play in the bowl game after more allegations of pay for play come out after the regular season, which isn't unusual as he wasn't showing up to any of the practices anyway and probably would have elected to miss the plane altogether after sleeping in. (Ok, not totally Smack Free) For the fiasco that ensued on his watch and an embarrassing loss in a bowl game, Sumlin is dismissed.
Which brings me to one, Chad Morris, a Texas A&M alum. The reason Sumlin is fired, in addition to the mismanagement and lack of control over the Manziel situation is to bring in Chad Morris while his employment is available. A similar situation occurred when Notre Dame and Urban Meyer if you recall, with a firing of Tyrone Willingham occurring to make room for Meyer to come aboard. This was the first time in Notre Dame history a coach had not been able to complete his original contract. And of course, Urban chose to go to Florida instead, leaving Notre Dame with a one year interim coach and the subsequent Charlie Weis fiasco.
So would Morris take the Texas A&M job? Seems it is on the few he would take. This is one of the few jobs that will give him a substantial raise over his current post, in addition to being his alma mater. He also coached high school ball in Texas, so he is well aware and connected in that area. Clemson did a good job of locking him into a contract with a very high salary for a coordinator, making smaller schools unable to really sweeten the deal from a salary standpoint. Also, he had a big buyout included if he went to another school to be an OC, but that buyout was voided if he left to become a head coach.
Morris announces that he is leaving for Texas A&M the day after signing day, 2014. That is his last nod to Clemson's recruiting.
You can't spell EXCUSE without the "CU."
