My 12 year old was on you tube two weeks ago. i was in the room. He jumped out of his chair and ran for the bathroom. i grabed him and said what's wrong. He said to to look at his laptop. It was a page with his photo taken seconds ago and telling him they were the feds and he had to pay $100 to access his computer or they would send him to jail. they wanted him to pay by paypal. It looked official and I could not do anything to access the laptop again. Norton was up to date. I took it to the shop as it was under warranty and the guy kinda laughed and said that they were getting better at this and all the retailers knew about it, but there was no name for the virus and the only thing i could do was restore to factory settings. Completely wipe the hard drive. And then there is still a risk that the HD is damaged.
In the last couple days there's a story about a kid in Europe that was blackmailed on skype by some girl saying she was from america. They came back to him and said if he didn't pay up, they were posting the recorded video son facebook and twitter. he jumped off a bridge to avoid the embarrassment. He's dead.
It's more about the kids than it is for me.
Help in disabling the webcam would be helpful. i don't want my son or my step children, I have seven of them, to have a camera on there laptop util they are old enough to understand the dangers.
