Agree...they struggled to pick up junk the defenses where throwing at them and missed a lot of blocks. I think teams were scheming more to stop the zone plays....you have to do things to get penetration and disrupt the play. We do the same thing. If they don't stunt or shoot an LB or DB, the zone read can kill them.
Play calling can help with some of this...probably why that TE drag/post thing is so effective.
I also couldn't help but notice that we didn't block correctly on the zone read plays. For instance, I noticed that on a lot of the zone plays that did not work one of our lineman was blocking the guy that the QB was supposed to be reading. At least I am pretty sure that was what was happening a lot unless I am seeing things. However, when we did run it correctly, we got a lot of positive yardage.
