having to face a top 5-10 program from the west mid or late season, UGA
survived the loss to us, and went on to win the Eastern conference by
taking care of the rest of their schedule. They did what they had to do
and absorbed the blow of losing the matchup with us. ... No one knows
how tough teams are going to be until we play them, or until the season
is well underway, and good updated comparisons can be made, but
generally speaking, South Carolina's schedule "SHOULD" allow us to still
win the East, even with a loss to Georgia Saturday. .... HOWEVER
This is a team built on the careful and well recruited classes of the past
4 years, and we finally have quality starting talent, and good depth at
most of the positions on the roster. It's a team that rivals a lot of the
upper tier programs not only in the SEC, but in the Nation. WE DO NOT
WANT TO PUT FATE IN THE HANDS OF OTHER TEAMS AND WHAT COULD
HAPPEN LATER ON IN THE YEAR. If we are truly a contender for the
SEC title, then we have to win those games that are "BIG" on our schedule.
UGA may will be the pre-season Biggest game based on potential results
of teams for 2013. In the past several years, we have always had that
one game where the season could have ended MUCH better for us had
we just been able to finish the game stronger or made a couple of plays
when they presented themselves during the game. Florida or Auburn
in 2006, Georgia in 2009, Auburn 2011, LSU last year etc....
Games where we played them even or better than, through most of the
game, but when it came time to put the nail in the coffin, we couldn't do
it, and ended up losing the game, and giving away the Eastern Conf, or
a shot at it later in the year.
This year, UGA will more than likely be "one of those games". A statement
game. A definitive moment in the season. Can we (Will we) rise to the
moment and finally take control of our own destiny ? ... Our team is
built for doing it, it's a team capable of doing it, and as in the past, it's
a team where the only wall preventing us from doing it is that wall our
team seems to build within themselves. Will this be the year where we
make the little mistakes that keep the big team close, or keeps them
just within reach, and not be able to over come it, OR will this be that
year where we tear down walls, win the big game, and take solid and
clear hold on our season, to prove we are worthy to win not only the
Eastern Conf. Title, but the SEC Title ? ... We need to go forward and
not have a repeat of so many close but come up short years. We need
to take it, when it's there to be taken.
Again, it's a season where we "Could" absorb a loss against UGA, but
still win the Eastern Conference, However, it's also a season where we
can make a statement and send a message that South Carolina is now
one of the Big Boys in this Conference. ... I feel good about this weekend.
I feel like we have the group that is going to make that big statement
