Re: Defense: let's discuss
Our Defense doesn't need a complete over haul at all, we have pieces in place. Jadeveon Clowney, Chaz Sutton, Kelcy Quarles, and Victor Hampton are all SEC caliber but that's about it to be completely honest.
We try to beat teams with speed, getting to the QB etc but it doesn't win ball games. If you play a Defensive scheme like Alabama or LSU where you play to stop the run first then in obvious passing situations you go get the QB. That is why when you talk about ELITE Defense's they pop into your head. They FORCE you to throw the ball because they stop the run. IF you stop/contain the run in the SEC you will win ball games, that simple. Our Defense isn't physical and they almost seem afraid to make the big hit on a RB or FB. They seem to sit back on their heels and wait instead of attacking the ball carrier like Emanuel Cook, D.J Swearinger, Jasper Brinkley, Akeem Auguste and all of our other guys who played physical and were known for hitting did. They thrived off of games like today and LSU last year, if we were more physical in those games and weren't afraid too hit someone (like it seems we are) we win both of games IMHO.
We are struggling right now in the back 7 because we are young and we faced one of the best Offense's in the country but what is frustrating is the fact that we were so close, so many times today to winning. Our D-line has to get pressure, Clowney is a big part of it obviously but he is going to get game planned around all season long. Chaz Sutton and Kelcy Quarles step it up!
