Re: The South
I think in 2 parts I suppose.
Georgia, SC, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
After that, as far as The South, I also include: Tennessee, Texas, NC and Arkansas.
Kentucky doesn't make the cut for me because a lot of people from northern Kentucky are basically like Ohioans or mid-westerners. Also don't include Missouri for same reason. Maryland isn't very southern from my experiences there, either. For whatever reasons, I also don't think of WV or Virginia.
Florida is unique in that the populated areas are definitely not Southern, but the rest of it surely is.
I usually judge a state on how Southern they are by:
- if they serve Sweet Tea in almost all restaurants
- Coke seems to be preferred in most restaurants over Pepsi
- BBQ being taken seriously and 90% of it revolves around pork
