We didn't go conservative in 2nd half vs Vandy.
I have read several posters state that they didn't like it that we went conservative vs Vandy in the second half and that our coaches needed to keep calling plays to keep the foot on the gas.
I just re-watched our offense for that entire game and that isn't what happened.
1st drive of second half we come out and go right down field and score a TD. We called the same types of plays that we called throughout 1st half.
2nd drive we start off with a great play for a first down that is negated by a holding penalty. Then we false start on the next play. So we have 1st and 23 without even picking up a yard. We end up having to punt, although we almost picked up the 1st down. This drive was shut down by execution.
Next possession we fumble the kickoff and Vandy gets the ball back.
Next drive, Connor has a long run right off the bat. Then we have a couple of so so plays. On third down Bruce Ellington drops a slant pass that would have picked up a first down.
Later on they punt to us and we fumble the punt.
The difference in the 1st half and 2nd half was execution. Penalties, dropped passes, and turnovers are what did in the 2nd half.
I didn't see a difference in play calling. We just didn't execute the plays. We continued to mix up the pass and the run and we were running the same plays as in the 1st half.
