Re: Applause for Williams...
He acted much better than I would have.
This penalty is ruining the sport I love and it's all because of this generation of soft parents we have today raising soft kids in a PC world where they won't let them out of sight until they are 18, tell them they are awesome everyday no matter what happens, and fear for their safety 24/7.
When I played football, I LIVED for the big hit. The opportunity to inflict pain into another person and feel like the biggest and baddest on the field was where it was at. My coach always said to "go out and destroy any person opposite of you that you encounter on that football field...in the most sportsmanlike way possible!" In high school, we had a t-shirt award each week that was called a "Hot W". Everyone wanted it...didn't care that you scored 2 touchdowns last week. That was the Hit Of The Week.
That noise you hear from the stands after cracking into someone is something you never forget...always stays with you...a collective "OOHHHH" so loud and in unison.
That said, it is absolutely asinine that they can allow the player back onto the field...admitting fault that the call was WRONG, yet the team is still punished. This is going to affect a big game and really have a lot of implications. Who the hell is making these rules these days without thinking of something like that? They need to be forced to run a cross pattern and let DJ Swearinger come across a time or two.
