Saterday is potentially the day the stop light turned green for THE USC....
Circumstance, shortcomings and injury lead us to turn to known but little used options from the play book, staff and most importantly the men.
WE reached the crossroads where the east/west route of disques and misdirection hope to trick and treat now merge onto and give way to the North /South route comprized of power, speed, tenacity, precision and will.
Against CF poor play calling, poor exectution and injury required we come out in the 2nd half drop the misdrection, read and react etc. We knew what our clearest advantage is, sixe, power, depth, and line speed of our OL and our backs, We line up hourse on hourse, two back set, and break them.
OL brings us to DT who is first and foremost a downfield thrower, Our oline is first and foremost a man on man power pancaking group. Our Fullbacks are excellent lead blockers and may be able to threat catching out of the backfield if they are akin to those who predated them.
Davis demonstated that he is comfortable working in either set.
That said his biggest # came from the power two back set. Our TEs are big and athletic and should be able to providce the underneath options along with the backs to allow the recievers to challenge down field.
the OL recently moved to TE should be much more comfortable blocking straight ahead for the most part and breaking in short routes. This kid could develop into a wesley saunders or patrick deamarco type TE allowing the others to run deeper routes much like cook did some yrs back. They have the speed and physical nature and the rountes should not be more difficult and indeed easier in many cases. While Davis should b e similarly comfortable in the two systems, Wilds should fit the two back to a tee.
The power running game should provide the game clock management factor while the air game over the top along with Davises threat to break long runs provided the exsplosive elelment when the opposing D stafts inching forwand in to the box.
Finally there are alot of things CS can do to contribute to this attack both the multitude of options he provides DT to distribute teh ball to him where he can run, catch and or throw in addition to what he can do under center.
Under the circumstances this seems the logical step to play toward out strenths and I am very excited at the prospect of seeing us line up and run over, around and away from our opponent. WVP
