Game planning for Arkansas...
Figured I would start a new thread looking toward Arkansas. We've had 24 hours to digest the Kentucky game so now it's time to move on.
A few team stats for Arkansas:
Total Defense: 27th
Run Defense:30th (SC 34th)
Red Zone defense:66th (SC 57th)
Team TFL: 63rd
Turnovers Gained: 86th (tied with SC with 7)
Passing offense: 109th
Rushing offense: 24th (SC 26th)
Red zone offense:76th (SC 74th)
I thought it was interesting seeing how close these two teams are in these rankings. These teams are more similar than one might think with the exception being the pass offenses.
It'll be interesting to see how Spurrier calls this game. Arkansas gave up a few miles to A&M in the air and let a Florida qb who started his 2nd game throw for 250. They're very good on run defense (held UF's Jones and Brown to combined 89 yards on 28 carries). It'll be interesting if spurrier goes I formation on the road to try and establish a run game with davis or if he comes flying out of the gate with Shaw throwing deep to test the secondary. Either way, our line needs to perform well against a VERY GOOD Arkansas defensive line.
One simply might say to just load the box with 8 guys and make them throw...and they would be right. Arkansas lives and dies on the ground. Florida did a good job with their run game. I guarantee you Arkansas didn't want Brandon Allen to throw 41 passes last night. I'm curious to see what changes personnel wise they do on defense. This will be a big test for our linebackers to see how they improve against a physical run game.
I think this is a big game for Connor Shaw. He needs to get this win on the road, in the sec, to improve his and the teams confidence heading to Knoxville and especially Missouri. If we lose, it can cause a snowball effect. And one more thing.,.NO TURNOVERS. You can blame the defense all you want, there is some blame on the defense, but special teams and the offense have caused those turnovers to start all these 4th quarter comebacks. Hoping for a solid win on Saturday!
No matter what happens..I'll be glad we don't play them every year anymore.
