Re: South Carolina State Fair
From what I understand, the rides at these fairs are relatively safe BECAUSE of all of the setting up and breaking down they have to do, and the many inspections to go along with the process.
They have added a lot of newer rides. The OP mentioned a 20 year time period of rides, not sure if that was an exaggeration to make a point, but yes, some really good ones have been added. Although he is correct on some of the older more "classic" rides if you will. They still have the big slides and the "Gravitron" (called something else now). Nobody rides that thing anymore. Remember in the '80s it was the shizzle and the line wrapped half way around the fair? I vividly remember at age 11 getting the balls to finally ride it. Just as we were about to get on they stopped us at the front of the line to go inside and clean up somebody's puke. Then we get on it smells like crazy acidic lemonade and pizza. We start spinning and the wall seats begin to rise up as we go faster. Then low and behold some chick throws up on the opposite side of the ride and puke is just splattering along side the feet of everyone on that side. Disgusting!
Oh yeah, and the Dopple Loop(ing)(er)? That thing was a little suspect when the loop would wobble after the train zipped through it. LOL. Most of the fun houses and haunted house rides are super old too.
I am taking my 3 year old son next week. Looking forward to good food and hoping he'll ride some of the kiddie rides. He also likes the animals and what not. Last time he flew through the fun houses. Loved those things.
