The big gains were basically because of missed tackles. Our defense does not tackle well and it'll result in some long yardage plays. The way to counter that is to become more stingy in the redzone. We have got to start keeping teams to field goals.
I think this may be the biggest difference in the defense from the past 5-6 years. We seemed to have that "bend-but-don't-break" philosophy and would always make that stand when needed - whereas the D this year seems more soft.
I thought the defense showed improvement - but as the yardage per play stat shows - I think there is still a long ways to go.
