Re: What is the greatest South Carolina game ever?
Going back to my undergrad years:
1978 - UGA. Our team had not beaten the Dawgs since 1959. But that night, the team was phenomenal. The final score was 27-10, and was the only loss the Dawgs had that year. In the second half, UGA did not even have the ball for 10 minutes.
1979 - Taters. We had lost 3 straight years, but in this game, we won 13-9 in a perfectly played game. There were no turnovers, and only 1 penalty. Also, the Taters only points were FGs. The Taters drove almost the whole length of the field in the final minutes, but a goal line stand kept them out of the end zone.
1980 - Michigan. The game was played in Ann Arbor, and was the first ever meeting between our schools. Our team won 17-14 in a game that again featured a goal line stand where we kept the other team out of the end zone as time expired. Michigan went on to win the Big 10 that year, although everyone outside that conference called them the Big 2 and the Little 8 back then.
Also, for those too young to remember, those were during the years of legendary coaches Vince Dooley (UGA) and Bo Schembechler (Michigan). Beating their teams was a major accomplishment.
