Default Re: BEST HAIR BAND TOURNAMENT: Motley Crue (#2) vs Tesla (#10)

I have a feeling I know who will win this matchup. I also have a feeling
it will not be the better band. Not saying that voter's opinions are wrong,
but if you look at the two and compare Musical and Vocal talent. Lyrics
and Melodies etc... Tesla is the better band.

Motley Crue came on FAST early in this wave of Hair Rock / Glam Metal
and drew a very large following. They established themselves in the first
couple of years in the early 80s as THE best act of the hair band craze.
I didn't really care for Too Fast For Love (their first album), but when I heard
the singles off of Shout at the Devil, I ended up buying the Cassette and
it was a KILLER ALBUM !. ... IMO, Motley Crue peaked with that album, and
never did anything close to it artistically since. Still, the Crue gained a
huge fanbase early that stayed loyal to them through the decades and
that says a lot for the appeal of ANY kind of band / artist. I had them on
my nominations list just below middle of the pack. I put them on the list
because of the impact of Shout at the Devil, and the impression I got from
that body of work in regards to Hair Metal.

Tesla was basically the opposite. Came in quietly, rode the popularity of
a couple of singles early on, and put out a couple of other good albums
with some quiet singles off of those before fading in the late 80s. Small
but VERY loyal fanbase. Looking back at their short but immensity talented
career, you realize that Tesla was a band that could have been a lot
more popular had they formed and recorded Blues / R&B Rock 5-6 years
earlier. IMO, they came along at the wrong time, and got tangled up in
"The Disco Of Rock" with this short but interesting genre of the 80s. I listed
Tesla as one of my top 3 favorite Hair Bands. Still consider them to be one of
the VASTLY under rated bands that came out of the 80s (all genres)...Way
too talented of an act, with way too short of a career. They Were A
Damn Good Band.

TESLA gets my vote in this one
