Re: Merril Hoge talks a TON of trash about Clowney's skill
The stuff he said was over-the-top and almost malicious. The were inaccuracies and a terrible tone to the discussion. They said Clowney benched 16 reps. It was 21, and 11 of the 28 DE's benched more, and about 5 of those were 22. They talked as though he was some kind of lazy out-of-shape wimp. Clowney played with a couple of injuries this year (and minor ones as a sophomore). As far as tight ends whipping him - or any single blocker for that matter, it only happened a few plays. He was schemed out of stats, but he affected all games he was in. As far as heart for the game and work put -in, Hoge is simply speculating. I think the tone and over-the-top nature of his comments give away his bias. Clowney has every reason to think his face was spit in. Sports commentators often live by making wild statements in order to get noticed.
