I don't think there was anything official on this. Some people speculated that UNC would just cancel because Hyman's buyout clause for UNC (his alma mater) was low and not at all a disincentive for UNC just screwing us over and cancelling the game. As it turned out, surprisingly, UNC honored their end of the home/home despite old threats that they would never visit our stadium again after we left the ACC.
