Exclamation CockyTalk's Best BBQ In SC

People have asked where's the best BBQ in Columbia, Greenville, Charleston etc etc, so I figured we should have an official list of the best BBQ joints in our state.

I'll leave this open for a few days for everyone to throw in their opinions, and them I'll do a poll for people to vote. I'm not sure yet if I'll do one massive poll (that's what she said) or if I'll do a bracket.

You can suggest any number of restaurants that you want. They can be single location businesses or even chains (although I doubt there will be many of those).

    I'll start this off

    Scott's BBQ - Hemingway
Jim and Nicks - Charleston (I actually think they're a good small chain)

Scott's is excellent and should be on any list. Little pigs is the best BBQ buffet. The hash cooked by volunteer fire departments once or twice per year in the Greenwood-Laurens are is by far superior. Has no liver crap.

I think you're referring to Mountville VFD, maybe. Anyways, it has always been good.

Sweatman's in Holly Hill... way out of the way, and only open a couple days a week, but absolutely incredible, and the best hash I've ever had.

Exactly. I used those counties because I doubt that many would gave anyh idea where Mountville is.

There are 2 Bridges. Which one? Alston or Red? I've been to Red bridges and thought it was good.

Edit: Red's is the one off the main highway on a frontage road. I'm not sure what the differennce is b/t the 2, I just know that certain people prefer 1 over the other.

If you're talking straight BBQ, Scott's tops my list.

    As far as BBQ buffets:

Shuler's in Latta (never found anything remotely comparable to their smoked ribs)
Big D's in Hemingway (Don't have a huge menu but everything they do, they do it well)
School House BBQ in Scranton (wide selection, good food)

By the way, what's the timetable for their reopening, or is he doing BBQ there in some makeshift fashion?

    Maurice's makes great BBQ sandwiches.

If you haven't tried McCabes in Manning, do yourself a favor. Only open Fri/Sat, small cinderblock building, seats maybe 30, family run, real pit cooked Q. Look behind Little Pigs, there is no pit. (Just sayin'). A few years ago WIS tv sampled all the midlands BBQ joints, and McCabes was the winner. It's worth the drive.

Sweatman's also gets my vote. They're open on Friday and Saturday and well worth the ride!

My favorite place for BBQ is Carolina BBQ in New Ellenton, SC. The BBQ and Hash is excellent and the buffet is good too. The pricing is very reasonable, about $9.00 if you are over 60 and $9.50 if you are under 60 and it is "all that you can eat"!!!

I have eaten at many places from Rock Hill to the Low Country and Carolina BBQ in New Ellenton, SC is as good as it gets. I have not eaten BBQ in Western part of the state - Greenville, Spatanburg, and other parts up that way, so I will have to be honest about that part of the state.

Glad I got that right, I almost said it was in Eutawville, didn't want to embarrass myself if there were any locals reading!

I was under the impression just the smokehouse went up and I think they were up and running pretty quickly after the fire. They just took a hit on the quantity they could cook at a time.
