Evil, he may have ramped it up a little due to the divorce, don't know, but he has been a heavy drinker for a long time. He was either not properly vetted or somebody chose to ignore that information.

His players at Washington knew about his heavy drinking, showing up to meetings with blood shot eyes, alcohol on his breath, etc. Who knows, that may very well be the cause of the divorce instead of vice-versa. He is a portion of an article on his issues

It could have prevented him from becoming a head coach in the first place if those doing the hiring had bothered to arduously vet a man who has strewn 3-figure bar tabs across the West Coast for the better part of a decade.
From the looks of recent reporting by The Los Angeles Times, red flags flew about Sarkisian well before his tenure at USC and back during his days in Seattle at the University of Washington. During one apparent drinking spree indicated by receipts, Sarkisian and a few of his UW assistant coaches polished off eight shots and five beers before noon.

Just heard Deptula say that Finebaum tweeted that Mac Brown said he wanted to talk to Ray.

Yep. Finebaum asked him if he would be interested in the SC job. Mack said, "I'd love to talk to them".

Thanks but no thanks, Mack. For so many reasons, but mainly I'd rather break the cycle of hiring coaches trying to give it "one more shot"

How about Coach Corso? I think he could catch fire here. Him or Mike Ditka.

if our criteria is out of work coaches who are not dead, I pick Eddie Robinson.

So, basically, there is no way we can get Chip Kelly?
We got shutout by Virginia, in football. Let that sink in.

The second the SoCal job came open any slim chance dropped to a zero chance.

Mack Brown honestly wouldn't be a bad hire as long as both sides go in with an understanding that it's going to be a short term, ~5 year or so run.

Obviously in his final and lame duck season at Texas, the recruiting fell off a bit. Barely finished with a Top 25 class. But in the 4 seasons prior he pulled in Top 5 classes. And of course, to state the obvious, HE HAS TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL CONNECTIONS.

He'll have had 2 full seasons off. Plenty of time to recharge the batteries for a short run. In terms of football facilities, conference prestige, etc. North Carolina wasn't as good a job as this job when Mack was there and UNC became a national title contender. Just couldn't beat the FSU dynasty of the 90s, but finished with 1 loss and a Gator Bowl win 2 years in a row.

I'd prefer one of the hot young prospects like Kirby Smart or Tom Herman, but IF we strike out on the A-list prospects, it honestly would be better to hire Brown short term and try again in a few years than it would be to settle for a C-lister.
"And I said we said I said, 'Are you strong?' They said, 'I'm strong if you strong.' I said, 'We strong, then.'"

Mack Brown would be an F in terms of a grade for a hire. The last thing we can do is hire someone who is 5 years away from retirement. He left Texas in a total dumpster fire situation and would more likely than not do the same here. If we hire Mack Brown then Ray Tanner should be fired within the hour of it becoming official.

I like a coach with fire and plays with the players while teaching. Look out for Shawn. I hope he can do it.

Mack brown might be a good/great option. We need a recruiter to stock it up. Not going to succeed after winningest coach in program history anyhow. Get him and bring Smart in as HCIW.
