Tough loss for the gamecocks , losing to Florida 3-2 . Florida took the first two sets 25-17 & 25-15 , but USC took the next two 25-18 and 26-24 . Florida took set five 15-12 . USC visits Arkansas Wednesday .

Oh well, seems like a bit of a regression as we lost in Fayetteville last night 3-0. Arky was only 8-9 (2-5) heading into the match so it would seem we should have fared a little better, even though conference games on the road are inherently tough

Big win for volleyball tonight , upsetting # 20 Missouri 3-2 here in the real Columbia . Missouri led set five 12-8 , but USC came back to win it 15-13 . USC's overall record is now 16-6 and conference record 7-5 . The win probably at least keeps the gamecocks hopes for an NCAA berth alive . Still six games remaining , and the conference is very tough from top to bottom this year .

USC goes to 8-5 in SEC play with a 3-1 win over Auburn . Five matches remaining , and USC will probably be underdogs in at least two of them . Very balanced scoring today with Shields 13 kills , Maclean 11 , Robinson 10 and Furlong 9 .

I edited my original comment that USC would be underdogs in three of the remaining matches . I was overrating Texas A&M a little . A&M is losing 2-0 today and may fall to 6-7 in the SEC . We beat them at our place and may very well be favored to win there . Should at least be a toss-up .

Big win tonight over Texas A&M . Every win gets us a little closer to making the NCAA tournament . We won 3-2 . Lost set four 29-27 but bounced back to win set five 15-8 . Record is now 18-6 overall and 9-5 in the SEC .

I thought we were in trouble after blowing all of those match points in the fourth set, but they came out strong and focused in the fifth. Nice win on the road.

Yes very impressive. According to the team Facebook page, we had never even won a game in College Station before tonight

Prior to tonight's game, our RPI was 26, and ranking was #29. I'd love to see a strong finish in the Top 25 headed into the tournament.

Even though aTm isn't great this year, a conference win on the road can't hurt the rankings, for sure!

Choked the 4th set, but still found a way to win.

#25 in the projected RPI this morning. Beat Ole Miss and LSU and we're in the tournament regardless of what happens the last two games.

I agree with that . Winning one of the next two might be enough . That would put us over .500 in conference play . But LSU on the road won't be easy , and I
wouldn't want to finish the season losing three in a row .

It is pretty wild the difference a head coach can make for a sport.

There were 5 new coaches in the SEC this year and Bama just fired its coach. There is definitely a push to make SEC volleyball relevant since it feels up a lot of time on the Network. Very encouraging.

USC sweeps Ole Miss 3-0 to go to 19-6 overall and 10-5 in the SEC . Scores were 25-20 , 25-20 & 25-23 . Glad I saw this match live since it wasn't streamed . If it had been streamed I would probably have watched it again because it was very entertaining with lots of long rallies . Mikayla Shields was sensational with 15 kills and only one attack error . Aubrey Ezell had 6 aces .

Mikayla went head-to-head with #13 of Ol' Miss and Shields got the best of her. She was frustrated. During a timeout, #13 got in a back and forth with the Rebels' head coach. An assistant had to take her to the side and calm her down.

Classy Ol' Miss coach though. He sought out Ezell and congratulated her after the game.

And I, too, wanted to watch the game when I got home. Is that a decision by our athletic dept? I believe it's up to the home university of provide the tv crew for ESPN3 games. Volleyball is trending up at USC. The crowd was good. Ray Tanner was there, so I know he's interested. We need to take every chance to promote the team.

I count three SEC voileyball matches this month that weren't either streamed or on live tv . One was at Arkansas and the other two were at South Carolina . And yes , we have to provide the announcing crew for the SEC Network Plus broadcasts , and sometimes some of the camera crew and technical people as well . I guess it was more money than we wanted to spend . Doesn't seem like a good way to pinch pennies to me .

This S&F article does a good job summarizing where the team stands .

Here's a little volleyball bracketology for you. This is based off RPI futures, which would certainly include losses to Kentucky & Florida.

If we also lose to LSU, it wouldn't be good to end the season with 3 straight losses.

Theoretically, that shouldn't matter to the committee. Our body of work should be good enough.

Just have to look at the last 3 games as a chance to improve our seeding. Play aggressive and not tight.

Washington State would be a long trip . Hopefully Ray wouldn't make us bus (lol) . I'm just kidding . When Beverly Smith made the tournament for the first time Ray got the softball team a charter to substitute for some awkward NCAA travel arrangements .
A matchup with Hawaii would be interesting , especially with us seeded higher than them . It's been a couple of years since their legendary coach Dave Shoji retired and they have evidently dropped off some .
