It was a much better Day 2 of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Saturday as all 4 scoring golfers were par or better. The Gamecocks posted a solid 4-under 284 and now sit T-5th at 2-over heading into Sunday's final round. Caleb Proveaux led Carolina with a 2-under 70 that featured a team-high five birdies.

No. 7 Georgia Tech (the host school) and Tennessee are tied for the lead at 20-under, with No. 2 Alabama in contention two shots back after shooting the round of the day, an 18-under 270 which set a new course record. All three schools have separated from the rest of the field with a 19-shot cushion from fourth place. No. 6 Auburn is in 4th (577; +1), with USC and Virginia tied for 5th (578; +2) and six shots up on 7th place Clemson (584; +8). We tee off at 8:50 and are paired with Auburn and UVa.

Well we had a pretty good final round to (3 under) to finish tied for 4th. Unfortunately, the team we tied was so each team gets 1/2 point in the Palmetto Series, leaving the standings knotted at 2.5-2.5

There's at least one more tournament with both teams so the points can shift for this sport.

Furthering the orange consternation, Tennessee took the win

Played this past weekend in Chicago against many top teams (10 of the 14 were in the Top 25 while we were just outside, tied for 29th based on Others Receiving Votes). Started off great being tied for 3rd after the first day, but slipped to 6th after day 2 and finished in 9th, so still decent but a bit disappointing given our great start

Just a thought on the golf team - wish we could have a Ryder Cup type weekend match series vs Clemson every year.

I know the golf teams don't play tournaments every weekend.

It would be a 3 day event...best ball, alternate shot, then singles match play. Probably wouldn't be a many points up for grabs each day as the Ryder Cup, since you'll probably have your best 6 guys out there each day.

Could call it the Palmetto Cup.

-One year Carolina would host it on our home course (Woodcreek, I guessing)

    -Next year Clemson would host

-Then following year would rotate to a neutral site course

It would be fun to go watch them play at a Kiawah (Ocean, Cassique, River), Sage Valley, Cliffs course, Harbor Town, Dunes, Caledonia, Yeamans Hall...plenty, plenty of great courses around the state to choose from.

Of course, you would probably want to schedule it on a fall weekend when both football teams are AWAY or one has a BYE week/one has a AWAY game.

Tanner & Radkovich need to make this happen.

    GO COCKS!!
