We should win a lot more. If we did, we would probably shoot up to near very the top. I believe Tanner will get it sorted.

I personally only find the revenue numbers informative (which is probably why they use those for the rankings). These are not-for-profit enterprises.

I think we should be demanding more from our program as well.

We are worth more than UGA and they beat us like a stepchild. Sad!

You do realize that's more about UGA being the only dominant instate school (thanks GT) in a state that sometimes puts out more 5 stars than our state puts out 4 stars right? Revenue and built in recruiting advantages are two different things.

Same thing I was thinking reading those posts. Just because your program is profitable, it doesn't equal wins. All you have to do is go ride across campus and you will see everything that the university has done to invest in the student athlete. Now we just have to get these players in and coach em up.

    WINNING

As easy as playing a Big 10 Team.

We rank 7th in the SEC by their numbers. Another thing that puts us I. The middle of the SEC. This is why we are always fighting an uphill battle. We can be ranked fairly high in recruiting, revenue, AP and Coaches, etc rankings but we are always in the middle when it comes to the SEC. These are the teams we compete against. Itís hard to break into that upper tier.

Yes, I live in ATL, we have more football talent in this city than the whole state of SC. To win at Carolina we have to get 5 star players from out of state, like the taters do it.

You're right. This makes me wonder about the idea of changing our level of competition. Stay with me on this. If we were to leave the SEC and join another conference - don't have one in mind - Where we started seriously competing for and winning titles, wouldn't that attract better recruits that would eventually allow us to challenge for the CFP? Sadly, our rival has clearly demonstrated this tactic can work to a degree. They still have good coaches, which is also important.

They kind of just won a National Title and aren't competing on the field week in, week out with anybody they're recruiting again. How hard of a sells pitch is it to say, "Come to Clemson and you're guaranteed a conference title and as long as we don't slip up in the 2 tough games a year we play, you'll be in the Playoffs"?

    Bingo.

Same reason we can consistently bring in top 20 recruiting classes but fail to make the top 25. We are always about middle of the pack in the SEC.

The excuses are BS. We have it just as easy (if not easier) than Bama, Auburn, and even Clemson (who is nowhere on this list, I note). Get it done or get fired...just like Clemson, Bama, UGA, and Auburn do it. UGA can only take 20 something each year, we should have equal or better facilities and support and you are a much bigger deal here than in GA with the Falcons, Braves, etc...(similar to the bama schools). We have wide open territory and proximity advantages up the east coast.

No worries though, I am pretty sure Tanner has the highest expectations. Just need to bring everyone else along.

    There ARE no excuses anymore.
That list shows revenue and profitability. Revenue minus expenses. Obviously, we get revenue because we're in the SEC and our fans are willing to shell out big bucks for tickets, donations, and concessions.
I'll bet we have the worst winning percentage of anyone on that list.
We got shutout by Virginia, in football. Let that sink in.

It's just as easy to win here as at Bama?

Well pre-saban, yeah. Bigger, faster growing, population in-state and two of the fastest growing and soon to be most populous states in the country on the border (one with no in-state powers), two big, fast growing metros within 3 hours...direct flights to larger metros....yeah...at least as well situated.

Population difference between SC and Bama is negligible. Bama borders Florida, whose population is roughly equal to that of NC + Ga.

FL with 6 football powers plus the RUS to split it. Also, no one lives in NW florida/ the panhandle, certainly no ATL or CLT. Panhandle doesn't count. Look where Tuscaloosa is compared to Florida pop centers (do the 5 hour drive thing that Muschamp does if you need to).

Bama and SC is negligible now, but it won't be in 10 years. Check the growth rates; and that's before Boeing and Volvo.

Also, they are in a different time zone than civilization.

Not saying we are way better off or anything, but we just don't have all these huge handicaps/excuses.

Ok. Slice it however you want. It will always be easier to recruit to Alabama. Even when they had sucky coaches they recruited better than us.

To reflect your edit: I wouldn't necessarily call them handicaps/excuses. It's just reality. We aren't a brand name. When Spurrier was here, his name got us in the door with a lot of recruits. Champ doesn't have that. People may have heard of us, but it just doesn't carry the weight that the name Bama does.

Uh yeah cause they were bidding on albert means and doing whatever you need to do. You probably don't recognize that name since you don't know the difference between phil petty and chris smelley.

So explain it then. According to you, we have no inherent recruiting disadvantages compared to Bama. Why do they recruit at a much higher level than us then?
