    Default Some Real perspective on this season to this point

    Our 3 loses have been to top 15 teams, while our 4 wins have been to teams below .500. Next week one of these will change. Which will it be?

    Ole Miss is 6th in FBS in total Offense and 119th in total Defense

    OFFENSE

    Total offense or defense are meaningless stats. The important stat is scoring offense and scoring defense.

    And per usual you're FOC. SC is 73 in total offense, not 114.

    The perspective on this season is not playing 4 quarters. I'd argue that we'd be 6-1 and in the SEC East hunt if we played the first half like we do the second half.
    We got shutout by Virginia, in football. Let that sink in.

    Yep we are a sorry 1st half team, and a VERY tough 2nd half team.

    Weíre like boxers trying to Rope A Dope our opponent. Unfortunately some opponents are like Tyson and knocked us out early

    We haven't been a strong second half team for every game. In fact, we were exactly the opposite against UGA. We had the breakdowns in special teams and defense to end the first half by giving up a FG to UGA, but we definitely played much better in the first half than the second.

    The defense could not stop Georgia to save their lives. They had one long score ending drive after another. Meanwhile the offense had zero running game and one dropped pass after another. Jake actually played pretty well in that game considering. His two int's were off Dowdle's face mask that should have been caught and a 4th and 10 from the 12 in a do or die situation where he had to throw something or take a sack.

    Yep, total offense is nothing but how many yards that you have.... who cares if those yards don't end up in points on the board?

    The bottom line is that we don't have a very good team. We have some good players but not nearly enough to be competitive with the better teams in the SEC. Last year we won some close games that we could have lost and inflated our record when it could have been worse. Right now we need to make sure we continue to beat the teams we are supposed to beat and be competitive with the ones we are even with hoping to split with them and at least try to stay in the game with the better teams. Sounds kind of like the twenty years prior to Spurrier doesn't it?
    Hopefully Muschamp can continue to recruit and thing might get better.

    USC can win if it has success running the ball and can play better defense. We need to hold Ole Miss to under 30 points and have a good day running the ball. It would help to take more time between plays so we can keep possession longer. Our opponents can't score if we have the ball.

    We are an 8-4 team that has to overachieve to get that record as opposed to a truly better one that finishes up at 8-4 because of a few tough losses.

    The missing twelfth game opponent can be either a blessing or a curse at this point.

    Not the way I would have imagined it at the beginning of the season.

    Irrespective of whether total offense or defense are legitimate metrics (I tend to agree with points made by a lot of other people that they're not that important), are you sure those #'s for USC are correct? They don't seem even close (they seem more like last year's numbers). Before yesterday's game, our offense was around 70 and our defense was around 60. Neither should have changed substantially given the UT-K game stats.

    Also, Coastal is 5-3 and Mizzou is 4-4, neither below .500.

    as of this post in Total Offense and Defense (for those that seem to care for yards more than points):

    USC = 108 total offense
    USC = 24 total defense

    Scoring Offense is = 71st (28.6 PPG)

    Scoring Defense is = tied for 60th (25.6 PPG)

    Curious as to where you got that since it's not what the NCAA stats site says:

    NCAA must actually use a formula that isn't solely based on how many yards you have (or gave up).

    Funny thing is, even though both sites have us scoring and giving up the correct number of points, they don't even agree on what rank that is...... LOL (only 3-5 different, but still)
